Right firstly i will say that i think they are a blessig and godsend for people who cant get out and about or who could only go short distances.

But something has to be done about the control of them.

People just abandom them outside shops, ride in the middle of the path on them. Think that cause they have one everyone should move out there way. These bloody great big fancy ones are about the same size as a smart car.

So do you think we should bring in some mobility scooter laws.

Like having to learn to ride one properly and pass a test.

Respect for other people on the paths.

Parking them up in proper places.

There should be laws for there use and i think that when a person buys one they should have some sort of training and a test before being let loose on the streets.

There most definately needs to be some sort of control over them

And with more and more people using them and lots of much younger people with mobility issues on them its going to get worse

I don't even know if there are any laws with using them?

Think the law at the moment is, own one and it gives you the right to do just what you want lol

There was a course in Norwich a while back

There used to be a bloke in Sidcup who would whizz down the high st with two dogs on those long retractable leads,he nearly killed a few people

There should be training.

My mother was lethal when she was alive on reversing it into the shed she put too much speed on and nearly went through the other side!!! we laughed,no injurys thankfully.

i've seen them inside shops before now - and not just the supermarket !

i have never given it much thought tbh - the inconvenience to me is nothing compared to the owner having his or her independance limited

in terms of usage, i think they are a safety issue on the highway - more so for the rider than for other traffic.

maybe they should be limited to using cycle lanes (where they exist) and common sense exercised where they don't ?

Saw one once plough through a stall in the market where we lived in London. Wet myself laughing.

Now there is one guy near us who shoots around inside the shops causing people to flee for their lives. He needs to have his speed limited as he just aims it at people as if they should get out of his way.

Just waiting for him to hit me with it so I can ram him back with my trolly.

He may need it but I don't think he should be the cause of someone else needing one when he runs them over.

These chariots of doom should be licenced and insured!

The Jeremy Kyle Limo that most numpties seem inspired to own are fucking lethal!!

I've seen more booze soaked old duffers cause chaos on the roads and in shops to keep personal claims in business for years.

There should be a CBT type test before they think about getting their arse in the saddle.

oh i see them in shops all the time but some just get off them and abandon them in the middle of nowhere

Like the lady i mentioned on the other thread, she was 90 and mobile, went with her daughter in law shopping and got knocked down by one in the supermarket and broke her hip. She never went out again

when we where on holiday last year we went on a couple of organized bus trips and this guy had his scooter put up and down everytime he went on the bus. But he had to take it right to the bus on the main road, wouldnt get off it on the path. However come nighttime in the restaurant he left the scooter outside the restaurant door and practically ran to his table every night

As I am led to believe the public highway goes from the centre of the carriage way to the far side of the footpath and as such the police process the power to impound anything with more than one wheel if they think it is a hazard or a risk to public safety. Because the power is limited there is not a need in law to insure one but in owners manuals you will more than likely find a paragraph telling you to insure it. As for the old lady she could have sued owner of mobile coffin for personnel injury. As for inside shops the 19995 DDA act requires all service providers etc to make reasonable adjustment for mobility aids to be used on their property with a few exclusions e.g accident buildings etc.

Whilst they are a good thing in some respects they are mostly a fucking nightmare ...the amount of people i have seen injured cause the idiot in charge of em doesnt give a fuck about pedestrians they share the pavements with is untrue
