Does anyone else do the annual reattempt at online dating during the festive period, only to give up by February? Just logged back in to OK cupid. I definitely do better here because I don't show my face.

Decided I need to try harder this coming year.

Any top tips?

I haven't tried dating in a long time, due to uni. Though I'm thinking of trying it in the new year; I'm 35 in 6 months and haven't dated anyone in 6 years. So it's going to be interesting lol

Only ever met 1 guy I fancied from online dating. It's so time consuming, all the chit-chat messages, arranging a date, and... no chemistry!

I do online dating occasionally. I have had a couple of short relationships from it. My tip is to try and show the real you in your profile. It will probably put loads of people off but attract the more suitable ones. Mine has “often stalls if wood smoke”. That attracts outdoorsy and hippy types and puts off women who like shopping as a hobby!

I don't generally do anything according to a symbolic or externally driven event, as I prefer and have better experience from following my own motivation and readiness.

Whilst the numbers support online dating, I'd not do it if I perceived I'd give up after a short period, nor if I wasn't fully ready.

If you're stuck for options, it's probably the better choice but if you're drawn to engaging socially in the flesh, consider some ways you could get that achieved that would be less tedious than online dating and that you could dip in and out of, as you fancied

I would say that if you want to take it seriously and really want to find someone then curb your Fab meets, as they take up time and bandwidth and if you get your needs met here, it can kill enthusiasm for dating

And don’t get caught in endless messaging- establish an interest/attraction, then a phone call and meet sooner rather than later. There can be issues with online dating where people get into a lot of messaging and build up a false sense of intimacy. People often feel safe revealing intimate details by text before actually meeting, rather than doing so gradually as you would if you met in the traditional way

If you’re looking for non monogamy OKCupid might be a good one

I just don't know how to do the dating thing. I rarely go out because I can never be arsed.

Fab suits me because I can browse without leaving the house and if people start getting on my nerves there is a log out button.

Plus not sure if I do want the next big thing relationship wise, a regular fwb would suit me but trying to find one is easier said than done.

I truly believe you'll meet someone when it's right.

I wasn't wanting to meet anyone as my last relationship was toxic and I left it. then one day I put a post on a FB page and Lou replied to it we had a bit of banter on the page, few messages and a date

the rest is history

I feel at my age mental and intellectual stimulation is more important than physical looks. I'm just lucky I found both

Not necessarily. I use dating apps for dating and this site for my sex life and have both active at the same time. I’m sure there are others who do the same. But you’re right, it might be an indication of this. The thing I hate about dating apps is the people who are just looking for sex and will be deceptive to get that.

Every couple of years I think I've grown up enough for a relationship, so I'll sign up on a site, have a few hilariously awful dates which become the stuff of legend and then realise actually I really prefer my own company anyway and I'm just looking for a FB.

It's a regular thing for me every 2-3 years.

Dating is easier in the fact that you get lots of interest and can pick and choose. Us guys it's really hard, because we have to do the chasing, our messages get lost in the hundreds you can't be bothered to go through and if you're picky like me, it happens once every blue moon
