I would say uneducated is someone who is a complete and utter thick moron, whereas someone whos dim is just a bit slack! bit like some of the knackers ive seen on here!

If you think about it most education is just memory. You get taught something, remember it and then sit a test. There are plenty of uneducated brainboxes and a lot of educated people who struggle to hold a conversation or cross over a main road. Intelligence comes in many different forms and i believe most people will excell at something, it's just finding that niche

Uneducated, is a subjective term,a university educated person could not find water in a desert, hell many of them could die of thirst in Shropshire! an uneducated native will know the signs and where to look, which is dim?

I think there is a fairly big difference. Dim is akin to thick (as in 'Tim, nice but Dim' from Harry Enfield's sketch show.

You can be dim but go to some very good schools.

Just because someone is uneducated, does not mean that they are not intelligent.

Just because you call someone dim, that does not mean they are uneducated or unintelligent either.

Calling someone dim to me means that they are thick either all the time or just having, as they say it, a blonde moment, and even I as a brunette have moments when I just don't get it

I know some people who have Phd's and all kinds of letters after their name but haven't got any common sense at all and couldn't find their arse with both hands.

Then again, I know people who aren't academic at all and are very savvy and create wonderful things with their hands.

I think everyone has dim moments at times though.

I understand the differential but strongly dislike and don't believe I would use either term.

I would probably be more inclined to question the intellect of anyone who does choose to 'name call' or label other people in this way.

I like the word 'dim' and if my mates say something daft that they haven't thought through, I'll call them 'dim' but then you can when it's yer mates.

Don't think it has the same meaning to 'uneducated', there have been many people not lucky enough to have a good education but have proven themselves to be anything but dim

Bit of cultural determinism about what constitutes education there. Your average bushman is highly educated - he'll have been taught by his family and elders everything he needs to know about the land where he lives, and lots of other stuff as well. It may be a different didactic form to that which we reognise in the west, but it's an education.

Yes I should have used quotes to highlight the use of uneducated, as I said it is a subjective term.

in summary No the terms "dim" and "uneducated" are not related, dim is a useful word amongst friends, as previously stated it means something akin to "blond moment" and is a friendly jibe in the right circumstances.

I take uneducated to mean more about how to behave in certain situations, rather than a lack of schooling!
