"Mutton dressed as lamb...."

Ladies of the forum (and gents if you have something interesting to say ) ....how much does your age influence what you wear? There will always be particular styles or fashions that we lean towards but are these ageless?

As I draw ever closer to 50, I'm looking at my wardrobe and wondering..."just cause it fits you doesn't mean you should wear it?" Or is a "to hell with it" attitude all you need to carry any look off?

Think it's down to if it feels good, wear it.

It doesnt matter what you wear. Age is just a number. I have been the fittest since I turned 40 and now carry off something that suit the younger generation. I simply refuse to get old!

So I wouldn't be fixated on my age!

If you look good in it - wear it. In my experience - more people appreciate a good figure in whatever rather than the mutton comments. You have a superb figure so why not wear what you want? The worst thing that will happen is jealousy from younger women - the men and nice women will love it.

Right thing for the right time and place if your bothered about other folk looking.

As someone who is trans i know only to well how folk in the trans community can wear the most inapropriate item in the wrong place (ballgown in the super market for example), however if you want to wear something that you like and your not to bothered about folk looking then go ahead and wear it.

I live in jeans boots & sweatshirts/hoodies (never hood up as I feel twatish) most of the time.

H is the one that dresses up but then it’s alt type stuff (She as some awesome long coats) nothing overtly sexy unless we are going somewhere.

We’d rather really be comfy & stuff what others think

If i’m honest its because i forget i’m 45 and i have no fixed sense of style. I wear what i think is pretty/sexy/comfy.

I don’t have a clue what suits me or my body shape. I envy women who look put together, i look like i’ve just been thrown in my wardrobe naked and stumbled out with age inappropriate clothes on, which isn’t helped by the fact i’m a clothes hoarder

Classic shapes and styles for me generally, ensuring its not old and boring, but up to date, as opposed to 'trendy'. Good, well-cut suits, tasteful boots and trainers and well fitted shirts. If it's good enough for David Gandy it's good enough for me.

To be honest if I had your figure I wouldn't give a damn.

I have my own style I love vintage and quirky. I've been out today in a dress covered in pugs in santa hats, double Dutch braids and big bows. Yes it's not to everyone's style but I love it and so does Beast and that's all that counts

I dress how I like, not because i think its inappropriate or appropriate for my age bracket. Why would i deprive myself of freedom of fashion choices.. to fit in someone's ideas about what one should wear? Meh.

I know my new pleather trousers make me more mutton dressed as lamb but my arse feels great in them.

Anyway, mutton has more flavour than lamb.

It's just clothes. We get too fixated about what people should wear. It starts early and then we reinforce it with age and gender limitations.

I do like to ask what a woman likes on a man as it shows I plan on making an effort right from the get go, but while taking it into account I'll always wear what makes me feel good. The majority answer by saying ".......whatever you feel comfortable in" anyway.

When dressing for everyday i just wear what i happy and comfortable in ,but for meets ,bedroom ones especially i always get my hubby to give me his opinion as i trust him to be honest and not say what he thinks i want and 99% of the time he is ok and tells me how sexy i look and that if they dont like it ,we wont meet again ,his opinion and advice i trust more than anyone ...

I would like to think society has moved on from such expressions as 'mutton dressed as lamb' but maybe I am deluded...!!

Women (and men) should wear what they want, what makes them feel good and other people shouldn't judge. However we know that people do judge so it all comes down to self confidence.

I always smile at the mutton dressed as lamb line. Look at the LA divas still rocking their looks into their 60's and beyond.

Yes they have the trainers and the stylists etc but as far as I am concerned if you are happy and confident with the way you look people will see that and love that about you, have fun on your date xxx

Does it fit, does it look nice and do I feel good in it? If I can answer he's to all three I wear it.

I no longer wear short skirts or short shorts apart from at home but aside from that I'll consider anything.

I dress in clothes that suit my body shape, that accentuate the good bits and cover the parts I don't like as much - this means that I rarely wear anything high fashion, more classic and often with a vintage feel.

So in answer to your question, I wouldn't be put off wearing anything because I thought I was too old for it, only because it doesn't suit me.
