well, I think the word voluptuous can be used for a variety of different body shapes. I'm big all over, but I do have an hourglass shape. But I have fiends of various other shapes and sizes who would all describe themselves as voluptuous!

i just see its as an alternative word for BBW, i used to have on my profile im a BBW but the tearm BBW causes so much contravasty amoung some members who take the beautiful bit far to litteral that i changed the BBW bit to voluptuous which, for some reason, seem much more acceptable, but when all said and donw it means the same

It's not a word I necessarily associate with being fat. Curvaceous certainly...but it is possible to be a size 10 and still have curves, so could be vouptuous. It's also possible to be fat with very small breasts and I wouldn't see that as being voluptuous. I'd go more for well-endowed, curvy and sexy

I agree - I describe myself as short, fat and old. It's not putting myself down but I do see why others think so. I was told I was too small to be Fabulous, but I prefer to think of that as state of mind rather than a shape

I am always happy if I look down and see my breasts and take some action if I see tummy. I know it's there but not when I look down.

My best friend calls me volumptuous. But then she thought the then US Vice President was Dan Quaid!

The thing is there are some females who just have to get in there first and say it as a negative to put themselves down.......... or because they are desperate to get the replies of "aawww no you're lovely".

You can usually spot them by the number of times they feel the need to 'just be honest' for no other apparent reason.

It's believed the myth came from poeple converting a size which had already been converted.

However, having a waist which was at least 13 inches smaller than her (36D)bust and hips, it makes it difficult to accurately give her a dress size as her dress sized based on her waist was a smaller size (1-2 sizes smaller) than her dress size based on her bust and hips.

The film studio's PR claimed she was 37-23-36 ....... pre 1958.

The film studio dressmakers claimed she was 35-22-35

Dresses sold at auction where typically a UK size 12 (based on bust and hip).

1960-62 her weight went up and down like a yo-yo, so it is possible she may have been (or at least her bust/hips may have been) a US size 12-14 which may loosly (ha a pun) be converted to a UK size 16.

But whatever, she was a wonderful hour glass shape.

Voluptuous means curvy to me. Curvy can be of any size, whether that's bigger or a size 12.

I am curvy and voluptuous. I have defined curves. I am not slim, I certainly have a tummy on me but nevertheless I am definitely an hour glass shape. I used to worry about how far my bottom sticks out, like a victorian bustle, but what the hell, its my shape and on the whole, even though losing the tummy would be nice, I am happy with my shape.
