It could be that their forum messages are usually ignored, so they take a more direct approach with the people they really want to engage with. Most of the things I post in the forums never generate a response, so if I want to talk to someone I message them privately.

I’m not sure if you being trans is the reason that a lot of these guys don’t interact with you on the forums. Some of them, maybe, but not all of them. Some are lurkers who don’t get the fora, some are shy, some lack confidence and some might be intimidated by you so feel safer in a 121 chat.

Because personas on forums are an illusion. How people behave in public is sometimes at odds with who they are in private. The playing of a role to attract attention here could be shattered should they interact with others and their “value” would be diminished.

Some people that come across as nice and easy going may be in truth arrogant and controlling and/or vice-versa.

I block all guys from the forum messaging me as they are a bunch of horny opportunistic chancers with the morals of a soirée of alleycats (me included obviously)
