It was intetesting to see the replys. I see it all the time when you go out especially when they walk with the buggie so they cant see what they are up to, they are probably using facebook or something like that, what is your view of it is it being responsible?

Get off the phone and pay attention to your kids I say.

This is the reason we are becoming so internalised.

Your children are young for a short while, make the most of it.

You don't want your children to have memories of you stuck to a phone

Louanna I did say you were obviously very good and responsible mums, you will always get those that aren't, they are the children I would be concerned for.

Having just had an incident last week where a young airhead mother yapping on the phone pushed her buggy into the road without looking, then to scream at me (obviously through shock), and accuse me of being a dangerous driver, luckily I was moving slowly in traffic.

If I'd been going 5 mile an hour faster her kiddie would have ended up under my car.

I daresay it's not just people pushing buggies with young kids in.

I see it every day in the street where my place of work is located where immediately outside is the ONLY lights control pedestrian crossing in the whole street!

Each day, drivers miss the red light as they use their phones for calls or texting, or other related distractions.

Add in pedestrians who just step off the kerb into the road, totally engrossed in their phones but utterly unaware of their surroundings.

The message is SIMPLE. Put your phone down and pay attention to those around you; show some respect for everyone else!

Culprits who cause accidents etc should lose their phone for a week.

Yes I understood that your comments weren’t aimed at me or anyone on the thread. I was simply making the point that people had gone to extremes of impaired speech development and children being run over - this is clearly neglectful parenting and will be the result of a combination of factors and difficulties, not just the fact that someone happens to be pushing a pram and looking at their phone in that moment you happen to see them. What you’re seeing in that moment is a small snapshot telling you very little about a person’s parenting and ability to nurture their child. It certainly isn’t enough to indicate a child at risk of development delay or being run over - for me that’s a tenuous link at best. You’d need a whole lot more information to come to the conclusion that this is behaviour contributing to the child being at risk. That was my point.

I always feel sorry for little kids who are running to keep pace holding hands with a parent who walks too fast for their little legs and ignores them whilst using the phone.

Has anybody read the new Ladybird books for grownups? The one called The Mum, goes something like this...

This is Susan. Susan is in the park with her baby. Susan is on the phone, doing social media stuff. She heard a baby crying and wonders if it is hers. If it is, she thinks to her self, then one off the other mothers will message me.

Have we devolved into this and sold out our collective soul to SKYNET?

Yes I have, check out the post. She had some jabs n tabs, now she is in the living cafe of the Peterborough CPL. She'll find a new home in the New Year.

Short of handing her over to a new family, this is great news. Whoever gets her is as lucky as she was.
