I have a job interview tomorrow for potentially a life changing role..

It's OK to ask for a minute before you answer or you ask for clarification if you're not sure what they want.

Sell yourself don't self deprecate, but don't be cocky.

Be honest and don't fib. Confidence in what you are saying, if you don't understand ask them to repeat.

Probably the most important thing to do is answer the question you are asked, people have a tendency to not like certain questions and so lead the interviewer down a path they don't want to go.

When asked a question, don't just say "I have done that or I know how to do that" answer with specific experience, look back through your CV and decide which roles you have had before will answer questions you are certain they will raise.

For example:

"What budget management experience do you have"?

"Well when I worked at suchandsuch and managed a team of xx people and had an overall responsibility for £xx and xx clients, my role was to correctly report expenditure/turnover etc. We were successfully audited xx amount of times and I am pleased to say that the team and I never came up short, we put checks and balances in place to enable close scrutiny of financial activity of our department.

Make sure you have a well thought out question for the 'have you any questions?' bit. Maybe ask about how a recent expansion has affected the business model or something else that comes up from your research. Don't waste it.

You will be fine, confidence without arrogance. Stress how you worked as part of the team (we not I) but also clarify your individual role, explain how you corrected mistakes, how you monitored things, what savings you made. Always, always give a specific piece of experience and vary this up depending on how many roles you have had.

You will walk it

Keep it professional during the main part of the interview, there is always general chitchat at the end of any interview, use this time to let your character come through

Awesome, I have been piecing together similar ideas and experiences regarding the role and how my experience beforehand would make me an ideal candidate, I just dont want to come across too rigid or robot like

- Only answer the question they ask.

It’s easy to mess up by going off in a different direction

- Back up every claim you’re making with evidence

It’s not good enough to just say “I have amazing organisational skills” etc..

- At the end, ask if any of your answers need further clarification

It may give the interview panel the chance to help you out if you’ve missed something through nerves

The human aspect is acknowledging what you could have done better and what the barriers to that were (your experience, the process/methdology, further training, clarity of role). It is okay to be honest about things that didn't go to plan, but explain how you made the best of what you had, thats the human part

I recruit for a big bank and the best advice I can give you is to be authentic. Recruiters can see through the bullshit and are looking to find out who you really are, so show them that. Good luck!

Brilliant thankyou, the role is for senior sales admin/ purchasing manager, I've bags of experience on the admin side as I manage a team currently, purchasing I have some experience but I feel if there is a candidate with more in both I'm not in with a shout..

Just rem_mber that personality can clinch it.

When it’s finished and you’re about to leave , look them in the eyes and give them a very honest statement.

“If you do select me I’ll work so hard for you. I know I can be a success in this role for you”

Or whatever is appropriate for the situation.

But make it about what you can do for them, not about what it means to you.

They’re a business after all.

They will have done as much homework on you as you on them. Its hard to give tips without knowing the job role/description but if there are other candidates for the role you got to give them something that makes you better for the role.

Stick to your strong points and if there are sketchy parts of the job you are not experienced at try not spend too long discussing them.

Roughs is the very least, couldn't possibly phathom the words, but as we all know there is someone the has always that has gone through worse, besides the point, I still wouldnt wish it on my worse enemy, I genuinely could not see this a year a go, my personal mission now is to seek people who were/are in similar positions to what I've experienced and to try my best to show theres always a way out, a better way x

The kind words mean alot, really do, thankyou, I my self was raised bounced around the system to various homes, various working class estates, as you'll know its tricky and i genuinely cant believe I've managed to punch through the other side!

Fortunately I had a much more settled childhood, just no money. I wont bore everyone but I went from nothing to comfortable lifestyle then lost everything, including my home, in the last recession and had to start again. I know what its like to have nothing, twice. I'm nearly back to where I was but not yet.

Hard work and good ethics will get you a long way. Never let anyone or anything get you down.

Lose your wealth you lose a little, lose you courage and fight you lose everything. Best of luck.
