I grudge paying it. I already pay Sky so why should I pay the BBC for stuff too. It should already be in one payment if it’s going to be charged.

Don't have one. Only use Netflix. No interest in the news and can't stand football so no point in having one.

Not having the BBC pays for all my trips to bghs.

Only if you watch BBC iplayer or any other show "live" as it is aired, regardless of channel.

Any other streamed show and you are free to watch.

When you pay for sky or likewise your phone line is included why do you then have to pay for a tv license? Also you pay in advance for your license so how can you be prosecuted for not paying if you’ve already paid for said year?

I no longer watch the biased bigoted (I wont even say what the C stands for)

They sent me a letter daying i could be fined £1000. OH NO!

I called them and it was cancelled for 2 years.

I watch netflix, youtube and sometimes amazon prime.

It is a scandal that they can fine you and i think they are even charging pensioners now. Grim and typical of the UK these days.

Live on terrestrial channels. not subscription.

For clarity

I agree. Every phone line in the uk

Is owned by BT or majority and is included in your internet or tv subscription, why can’t the tv license.

If you watch record or catch up with any bbc program you need a license. I don’t think I do however still pay for a license. I am however contemplating filling in a form saying I don’t require a license.

Does that include the BBC's new streaming service with ITV, where we have to pay to see the old programmes we already paid for?

When you buy a tv they ask you do you have a tv license. What happens if you say no as you don’t watch bbc? Shouldn’t bbc give you an option of opting out of being able to view if no license? What would happen if by accident for instance I switched channels and flicked onto bbc , would I be committing an offence?

Wasn’t someone once actually sent to prison for not paying their tv license? I mean how out dated is this law.

If you say yes or no - they send your address to the tv licensing agency either way

Seems very much a grey area as one thing I’ve always been told is pay your council tax and tv license as they are the two things you can be prosecuted for! Ffs council tax I can understand but a tv license!

You need a license to watch ANY live channel. Not just bbc. You also need one to watch bbc iplayer. No other catch up or streaming service requires one.

I don’t have a license. When MPs get to claim £70 a meal in expenses but my geriatric mum has to pay a license fee I get pissy and refuse to play.

Council Tax yes!! They can take possessions etc for non payment.

Tele license not sure tho. How can they prove you watch tv?? If you live in a property and next doors tv was ‘wall to wall’ with yours don’t tell me they can tell the difference ??

They can prove if you use iplayer over your broadband. Not easily as they need to force your provider to hand over the info on all the sites you visit. But technically they can do it.

Shouldn’t the BBC be handing over responsibility to providers when you have a smart TV or likewise giving you the option to block bbc I player content if you check a box for instance saying you have no license and do not wish to view any bbc program?

How do they prove it though ? I mean people who are prosecuted and made to pay for non payment how are they able to do this. Is it more sensible instead of not paying to just fill in online form saying you don’t wanna pay as you don’t watch bbc, then at least you’ve notified them you won’t be watching bbc

That’s the actual process. You fill in a form saying you don’t need a licence because you don’t watch live tv or iplayer. It’s on the licensing website. If you pay by dd you’ve paid ahead. They refund the over payment in about 3 weeks.
