Listening to Jeremy V on Radio 2 this afternoon, (yes I'm that old and sad).

People were calling in with their Christmas Fairy Light disaster stories.

Numpty Number one calls in saying his was very surprised to receive an electric shock while baring the insulation back (on plugged in and switched on 240V fairy lights) with his teeth.

"It felt like I had been beaten up" was his statement. A future Darwin Awards winner I think.

Should the government do all it can to protect these morons? Or should we just let them remove themselves from the gene pool and raise the average IQ of our country by a few dozen points?

A lot of people buy their Xmas lights cheap off eBay and that’s asking for trouble xxx

That's really what the phone in was all about.

But electric teeth was a bonus call

What do people expect when they buy something for 49p from a country that blatantly copies things and cuts every corner.

I mean what could go wrong by plugging 14 sets of faked fairy lights into 4 daisy chained faked extension leads protected by a faked RCD breaker with nothing inside it but copper wire.

Some people just don’t think or realise and it’s super scary

Simple things from the battery operated micro LEDs powered by 3 x AA batteries - which eBay send out without resistors in !! The amount of these that people buy and put into craft things or kids costumes is scary !!!! Without the resistance the LEDs overheat and burn out .... and in kids costumes that aren’t fire safe is a serious worry

The amount of kit I’ve opened up and it’s been wired in reverse polarity.... or the transformers are totally wrong for the LEDs etc on the string is scary ......

I wish people understood is cheap for a reason

People need to realise, you get what you pay for. And be told that there 2 types of CE markings.

One is a european stamp of approval the other is a Chinese Export mark. One signifies quality and the other usually a lack of it.
