Why are so many more men having sex changes to be women, than vice versa?

You'd think the opposite would be true.

I think women in the West are free to be who they want but there is still a glass ceiling and much to be achieved.

Genuinely curious as to why there aren't as many women becoming men as there are vice versa.

Oh, and it's not a "sex change". The preferred terminology is "gender confirmation surgery" or GCS.

"Genuinely curious as to why there aren't as many women becoming men as there are vice versa."

I think it’s more to do mentally. I genuinely don’t know how to describe this, but I feel women are more content with who they are. Where as I feel more men aren’t happy and they’re brain try’s to find something the change that will make them happy. Then some how it ends up that they realise they aren’t happy with being male.

This is just an opinion of mine, before anyone gets their back up.

Actually the general consensus amongst my friends is that the pressure of being what patriarchy and others expect is damaging and toxic to men.

I'd say that the amount of men who beg me to feminise them speaks volumes about the unequal pressures that seem come with patriarchal structures.

Just going by life experience, experience of clubs and of FAB, I'd guess at least 90% of sex changes are male to female. If not 95%+

From my perspective it not the case at all but then my women friends are predominantly working class.

I don’t think anyone has the answer to your question why do more (assigned at birth) men transition.

We don’t really understand the cause(a) of gender identity problems.

What we do know is that people with gender identity disorder who are unable to transition, are much more likely to complete suicide.

So I would say it’s insensitive to use language like “easier life” about such a serious issue.

You could always do a bit of research at the ONS website?

Yeah, I think in the uk it is 80% MTF and 20% FTM.

You seem to have more of an insight into this than myself. What I said was purely how my brain has come up with an understanding on it.. I only know one person to have had a sec change and have not really gone into things with them.

By all means I may well be far from the real reasons. But I suppose everyone has a different reason.

Thing is, and I hate to say it, but female to male is far harder to spot, so you’d never even be able to tell if you saw them unless they had nothing on. I know of two female to male who are bald with beards and deep voices. You’d never guess they started life female.

There is something in this. Once someone has gone through puberty, masculinising a feminine body is an easier transition than the other way round.

But it still stands that about 80% of people who transition are Male-to-female.

Having worked for more than ten years with several of the trans support groups in the north west, met and talked with several hundred people in transition (both male to female and female to male), taken part in the consultations from government that have shaped gender recognition policy, having several fully post-everything trans people as close personal friends...

No certainly I don't speak for everybody, but i can absolutely confirm that being trans does not make life easier for anybody, whether they start as a multi millionaire (Caitlyn Jenner) or as a young person living rough because their parents threw them out for being "perverted".

To turn it round, my child is having gender identity counselling. I can categorically assure you that she doesn't want to transition FTM because she thinks life will be easier as a male. It's because, y'know, she identifies as male
