You're entitled to it yes, you're also entitled to have people disagree with it because their opinion differs, and when you make a statement as simple as calling someone a "prick" without anything to back up your opinion, then you are going to face it being shot down.

Anyone who expresses their opinion on social media should expect some criticism. Maybe 'prick' isn't the most articulate of responses though.

But the lazy accusation of 'racist' against millions of voters is entirely predictable and very insulting to lots of hard working voters.

I didn't vote Tory and was surprised with the landslide victory.

However, I respect it. We need a stong leadership but also a strong opposition. The later we don't have, mainly I believe due to very weak team work and fuzzy ideology over policies that matter to ordinary people.

Allen's opinion is just that. An opinion. Nothing to get angry about but something we should learn to ignore. Comments on social media can be hurtful but people need direction not ever spiralling condemnation.

Is it a lazy opinion though? I know many people who voted leave, and with one single exception, they will all openly admit they voted leave because they "wanted foreigners out", or some such similar sentiment.

Completely accept that it's a small sample, and there are many leavers who are not racist, but from my perspective and experience, it was all about race.

Actually if you read what she said she doesn't accuse voters of being racist but that social media gives a platform to far right wing views and allows them to be spread - you only have to look at the rise of Britain First off the back of manipulation of social media for evidence of that - she goes on to say that Boris won *in her opinion* because of deep rooted racism and misogyny and to an extent I think she's right - a lot of people voted in favour of "leave" off the back of the immigration issue that was being raised by the pro-Brexit campaign is one example of why I think she's right.

Either way at no point (and I've read the article on the Daily Fail website which if anything would highlight it further) has she directly said everyone that voted Tory is a racist.

As for expecting criticism/abuse for expressing an opinion - the reason for her explanation was to dispel word that she had quit Twitter because of abuse, so that's kind of a moot point - in the context of this thread though, the OP is entitled to his opinion, but it's a fairly baseless one when it amounts to calling someone a "prick" for holding a different opinion to his own.

The huge (and it has been huge) increase in racially motivated crime since the Brexit vote speaks volumes. To be honest I don't really care for anyone whose job is entertainment trying to tell anyone how to vote or live. I quite like her music and her dad was a bit of a hero of mine. Beyond that I pretty much ignore it. If you're going to become Bono then I'm going to be tuning out.

It is threads like this is the reason I stopped expressing opinions on Fab in regard to politics. It is also the reason why political discourse is doomed here and in the US.

What is the point of of actually reading what someone has said, or investigating the facts, analysing and responding with a reasoned opinion, when the counter response will be "prick" or "snowflake", or some other dismissal which does not address your argument but the dismissal is to appeal to the reflex bias of others.

Im surprised labour didn't do better in the election, what with all these pop stars and successful actors telling us to vote for them. Especially with the shame of being labelled a racist if anyone dared not to. Im surprised that the good, hard working people of Britain didn't go for an out of control, anti-semitic, student union, who seemed to be planning on making Brexit last at the very least, the next decade. Who knew?!

The only thing about miss Allen I like is her song FUCK YOU as her in France they just play it without bleeping out the chorus which goes fuck you fuck you very much!!

And walking around a super market with that blearing out does bring a rye smile to my face.

Tony"

That's a good song. She wrote one of the best songs about drugs I know "Everyone's At It". She also did some lovely cover versions, her cover of "Don't Get Me Wrong" by the Pretenders is really nice.

What is the point of of actually reading what someone has said, or investigating the facts, analysing and responding with a reasoned opinion, when the counter response will be "prick" or "snowflake", or some other dismissal which does not address your argument but the dismissal is to appeal to the reflex bias of others."

Nah, read GeminiMan’s response - and get your facts right.

I'm absolutely right. No question. Just wrong to debate with idol worshippers with heavy biased opinion.

Writing others opinion off as heavily biased does not make you right - I presented my opinion further up and backed it up with reasoning and stand by what I said - it wasn't from a position of any bias other than towards my own opinion formed after reading an article in what is widely acknowledged to be a "heavily biased" publication

Millionaire socialists are the best kind. They will probably be worse off if a socialist government came to power. And even so, they stick to principals of justice and kindness. God bless her!

Exactly this. Voting for a taxation policy that will make her worse but benefit those with far less is something to be applauded not derided. It shows how fucked up we are as a society where caring about the poor and vulnerable is seen as something to sneer at"

Totally. I don't understand why people who aren't millionaires get so profoundly outraged when millionaires suggest it would be better if they gave some of *their own money* to people who have nothing.

I personally find her music & singing as dull as dish water and rather irritating to boot.

I find her political opinions & thoughts much the same however she is entitled to them as much as I'm entitled to mine.

She is also entitled to express them in any legal way she sees fit as also I am.

When we start to deny people or describe people that right or opportunity to express their opinions either by simply calling them "pricks" or curtailing platforms we become everything she is sounding about.

It's one way to keep her in the public eye as she is not exactly filling stadiums with her music. It baffles me why the papers keep running stories on Gemma Collins and the Kardashian and the cast of TOWIE. Must be their publicity people I think. Unless you have any other ideas..

When you close your mind to others you lose the ability to learn and grow.

Your facts are actually opinion, and while it's good to think and feel and hold positions it's also good to be open to others perspectives and be willing to learn new things.

Pick a fact you have or an opinion you hold and if I have an opposing view we could discuss and learn from each other and we can start a thread to debate warmly respectfully and openly?

Her & Hopkins appear to be at either end of the political spectrum. Odd how one is a millionaire the other recently declared bankrupt (Good tbh) & it’s not the way round you might think....

Racist views ..put it this way the TP are pro right . Right wing normally means prejudice of some kind of the other .

Blaming everyone ? I guess not all people but it's clear some of the extreme thinking types of people who are not white and British with warped views on equality have been allowed to filter through under some justification of a 'win' and therefore it's ok somehow?

Is it dangerous to us ?

Only as long as people don't fall for the hate speech and the ' engerlaand' types telling us all what we should think . They need to wind their necks in and don't try to poison things even further for us all .

If we can ' filter' out these people regardless of political party then I reckon we all win .. if not then we will have some kind of trouble .

May want to start a leering post separately? This one is a discussion re politics, systemic racism, mysoginy, equality, justice and the ever widening gap between rich and poor. It's also about division of the working class (using data gathering and fear stimulus) into tiny groups to dilute their ability to fight back against entrenched power.

Just sayin'

Of course shes entitled to comment, but like a few other popular artists; shes suddenly taken to believing that she can preach politics(let's be honest the whole of Facebook and a large section of Fab thinks it's the House of commons).

I'm sick of hearing such accusations about all parties.

If you vote Tory, you're an unsympathetic, entitled, arrogant, middle class twerk.

If you vote labour you're a moaning have not, Marxist demanding everyone with money gives it to you.

I'll happily listen to discussions, and debates but people using their platform to make such indictments to score popularity isnt a good thing.

I read the account on Twitter seems to have gone?

I wonder if the self same people she called racist also blame the victims like she did?

Not letting that one drop, she said it, she meant it, even if she did later back track.

Just sick blaming the victims of r@pe.

Lily Allen is ok. She’s a nice person. Over the years I’ve learned that she’s passionate and provocative. Don’t that the things she says literally. She phrases things in extremes. In reality she’s much more nuanced and understanding. She just doesn’t think before expressing

"

But the lazy accusation of 'racist' against millions of voters is entirely predictable and very insulting to lots of hard working voters.

"

Unlike the lazy accusations that tory voters lobbied about that everyone who voted labout are unemployed, uneducated, work shy scroungers?

I find the above equally predictable and insulting, yet no one felt the need to get irate about those insults.

If labour had won would Tory voters have taken to the streets declaring "Jeremy is not my prime minister!!"? Of course not, they'd have been at work...

OK... The Rochdale thing is massively out of context. She answered a question about whether the girls would have been attacked if migrants were banned from coming to the UK. What she was saying was that banning migrants from the UK won't stop young girls being groomed and abused. Which is true as we only need to look at the BBC and what's happened in children's homes and the Catholic Church to see. IF she had said they would have been abused anyway meaning it was their fault then that would be truly sick and wrong. But she really didn't mean that and I think that's pretty clear. The point she was actually making is very valid. Vulnerable young women are at risk from everyone, not just brown or foreign people. It was a fucking stupid question to ask in the first place.

And its dickheads like those you've mentioned who have given the left its bloody annoying stereotype.

But yes actually, I do think there would have been tory voters doing the exact same and shouting worse, as there are just as many dickhead tories as the dickhead extreme left.

I disagree. It's putting it into context. I'd not heard the quote so as a stand alone it sounds awful. In context, not so much.

Yes. The point being that those are not just brown or foreign people. Stopping migrants coming here won't stop young women being at risk from predators? Is that OK? Read it slowly and think about the words.

Yo that’s so naive. I’m a brown guy - I hang around with all kinds of people. Because I’m brown too people feel comfortable around me and trust me I’ve heard all kinds of mad shit and it’s almost always from first generation people that didn’t integrate. I’ve heard everything from wishing osama bin laden was still alive. Celebrating terror attacks. Talking about going to schools to pick up girls. Groups of sober guys to night clubs early in the evening to get a free entry stamp, leaving, and then returning when girls are d*unk and abuse them (and saying it’s the girls fault for doing haram things). I’ve Seen people get beat up because they were Christian. That’s just the beginning.

So in the particular case of Rochdale. Would it have helped to stop those people moving there? Yes. It would.

Also I’d like to add that yeah of course most immigrants are good people. But there is 100% an underground problem within certain communities and people need to wake up to it instead of trying to be seen as virtuous. Who cares if the church does it too? Sort that shit out as well! I wish people would go out and live life and learn first hand. Then maybe we could make the world a better place
