Radical appearance change

Does radically changing your appearance make you uncomfortable, or is it just me?

I'm experimenting at the moment, and... it's not me looking back at me in the mirror. It's freaky and I'm not a fan. But I know from experience that often these feelings go away with time. So I'm trying to ride it out.

Is it just me?

I did a few years ago. I dyed my hair blonde. Did a double take everytime I saw my reflection. I didnt feel like 'me' though so went back to red. Red hair feels more like me than my natural brunette colour x

I have contact lenses, after 20+ years of full time glasses.

I look like myself as a child but with the aging of someone of my age.

I did the same and really liked it

Right now I'm trying not to hate it rather than toss the trial lenses and forget this ever happened.

I think overtime my appearance has ‘evolved’ to what it is now - I personally don’t like radical changes to my appearance. Like you, it makes me feel uncomfortable and not as relaxed.

I’d love to lose my glasses but can’t bear lenses. Have you had anyone walk by you that knows you yet?

I've experimented with my image A LOT... more in my teens and 20s but always went back to my beloved 'nobody owns you, cashless student' look. Which, I might add, I am still clinging to

Not yet.

They are very comfortable (the ones I have) and I find the insertion and removal much less horrible than anticipated.

It's just... Where's the rest of my face ffs?!

I started this year wearing skirts and dresses in the daytime when I had a free morning or afternoon, I lived in my Jean's and t shirts and found it hard for a couple of months to settle down with it, I found alternating between the two helped, baby steps so to speak..

Could you alternate between the two?

I plan to be in glasses almost full time anyway, the cost of full time contacts given my needs is prohibitive. I'm having a getting used to them day today and it's just... aargh. Who is that person and why's she where I should be?

It's like an existential crisis...

Are you suggesting a monocle?

Although it’s great for falling out when you shout “I say”

I've changed mine several times over the years, different hair or a different style of clothes, and over the last 10 years my whole body shape from being a skinny fat man to muscular and defined.

Must be good to not have them for a while though - I’d just love to lose the two dents on my nose!!

I've taken up the Boots free trial. Apparently dailies have improved markedly in the last few years.

I don't mind the dents. I'm just trying to not be weirded out by the lack of glasses.

The day of the trial, it's the first time possibly this century I've been able to be in public and not entirely helpless without glasses. It was so unbelievably weird I can't even tell you.

Strange how they can affect you - I’ve seen rare photos of me without them in public and have actually argued that it wasn’t me lol

I'm arguing with people that it isn't me. Because it's not

It may well do. It's early days and I can see it might be a cousin or something. But not me.

Cross dressing is definitely a radical change for me but doesn't freak me out when I see myself in the mirror.

Thinking of doing it if I decide to accept a new job I've been head hunted for but then I think they've approached me for who I am now.

Might redo my cloths as I'm due a change I think.

And tempted to change my driving glasses style but that's a nightmare as you grow used to those you've had for a couple of years.

I'm having my very long hair chopped off tomorrow into a long bob, I'm excited and terrified, I'm used to tying my hair up but I'm going to try wearing it down more often.

I understand why chasing makes you uncomfortable, it's scary.

I went from bum to spiked pixie, growing that out to a bob was painful, now growing out to shoulders.

Few months in and i still need to be careful when I put them on. But it has given me different options of 'looks' and I stopped looking for my glasses everywhere so thats a bonus! Give it a good go.

I dyed my hair red before and cut them very short from long.. and loved it. Embrace the change. There was an internal need for that metamorphosis, so try and ride out temporary phase of getting used to new image.

It can be off-putting a little at first. It is a bit of out of comfort zone, and just what is "normal" but the contrast can be quite a rush too, especially if you pull it off.

Mostly no, I've been the same for long time. But having said that, I did shave my head for the first time the end of Sept_mber, that was a bit of a shock when I looked in the mirror. Didn't really like it

I've evolved a lot over the past 10 years but I think it's been gradual. But I'm hardly recognisable from the person I was.

That said when I had my hair changed dramatically, I was surprised every time I saw it for months!
