Why do they never show Marx Brothers films at Christmas any more? One of the joys of my life was eating Christmas dinner leftovers and watching Animal Crackers or Horse Feathers.

What's your favourite Marx Brothers film? I've never been able to choose between Duck Soup and A Night at the Opera.

Nope. Its lovely. And call me a touchingly sentimental old booby but I like the songs but you're right about the anarchy. The hat scene from Duck Soup makes me die every time

Cant remember whether it was the Marx Brothers or the 3 stooges but there was one scene when they accidently broke a huge mirror in the hall. The owner of the house walked in and one of them had to copy exactly what the owner was doing in front of the mirror. It was very clever. Nothing like it now.

Night the opera wonderfull film,maybe on some channels like TMC allways worth checking.

Maybe they've just fallen out of favour with younger generations who really haven't discovered these gems?

All we seem to get over the Festive Season, is re-runs of Home Alone 1 and 2, the Shrek series, and other more modern films.

I recall back in the 70's, when The Screen on Islington Green, in London, would hold all night back to back screenings of themed movies.

One such night was every Marx Brothers movie; the show started at about 11pm and ran through till approx 10am, playing throughout to a packed cinema!

Far from it! I chose to attend, great fun it was too, and the place rocked with laughter all night!"

I grew up in North London and remember the Screen on the Green. I love their films because of the talent in them, no one's even mentioned Chico's piano playing. The harp is the hardest instrument of all to learn and Harpo is a true maestro. And Groucho is the ultimate blend of silly and clever.

He was a prolific inventor and designed a clamp system that apparantly inspired the jubilee clip- as well as being used extensively in industrial machines and even space craft.

There was also a fifth brother, Gummo- although he'd given up performing by the time the others found fame and concentrated on being their manager/agent

(also, Scoobys nephew was called Scrappy....the annoying little shit! )

Alan Jones who played Ricardo Barone in A Night at the Opera was the father of Jack Jones, the crooner. My best mate's mum used to love him when we were growing up in the seventies. Mine was listening to the Wailers and regretting that she was too old to be a punk
