Luckily my labour candidate is a good person so I can vote for them - it's the person in your constituency you vote for, not the leader

Having said that, if it was a choice between Alexander De Pfeffel Johnson (or his 'cuddly rogue persona of 'Boris') or Corbyn, I would have to choose Corbyn. Anyone who has actually met Al seems to think he is a lying bullying narcissist. What a choice though.

This is partially what I'm torn on. Voting is important, it is. But it is a choice, not a requirement.

That is just fact. But when there is no trust with any mp, especially the ones that actually have power, and policies that you agree with are at conflict with policies you disagree with in the same party it becomes impossible to know who you should vote for. It becomes an impossible choice that will never sit right with you whichever you vote for, you will never be happy with the choice you made.

At that point people settle on a single thing to champion and focus on, forgetting about all the other shit that can and will go wrong. But they got that one single thing they wanted, doesn't matter that everything else is going to shit.

Very few people know the full extent of what they are voting for as things are made overly complex and mind games are used so much. Only a small % of people who vote will ever truely be highly informed fully of what their vote is going towards changing.

When votes are formed based on such low levels of processed information, it becomes disheartening and a jaded feeling.

Not quite how the blame game works. The only people who can't complain are those that voted for the ones who fucked up everything. Which we will never know until it happens, at which point who is to say the other parties would have done any better.

While I do still vote for now, I do it for what I believe in, not because I expect any change to be in the interests of the people.

I stand by what George Carlin said about voting, at least with regards to general elections.

But where’s the logic in that? To an extent I’d agree - however - as I was discussing with a fellow forumite yesterday - the leader is almost as important as the party - particularly on the global stage - which will be vital whether we ‘get Brexit done’ or not!

Frankly I don’t think either of them are credible leaders and both would be a laughing stock globally!

I’ve voted for both parties in the past - but this time I’ll be placing my vote elsewhere!

An interesting phenomenon. In virtually every western country it doesn't matter who the public votes for as policy is always decided against their best interests. It becomes very much like choosing between Coke and Pepsi. Become cynical enough, and you're left with the impression that democracy is a sham that gives the general public an illusion of choice, thereby subduing any large scale movements of revolt or revolution. Looked at from that angle, democracy becomes the most insidious form of governance and the perfect tool for controlling the masses employed by the real power brokers.

Indeed, that is a terrible idea. Forcing people to vote, while yes you have a vote and it is important to use it. The very essence of a vote is choice and choosing not to vote is just as valid of a choice as voting.

The rules need changing, but not for the people. For the MPs and the bullshit they are allowed to shout about. There should be certain things that they should be held accountabile for, if they say one thing in their pre election campaign, they must follow through with it.

If they say NHS won't be privatised, and is not for sale. That shit needs to be held to. Certain things MPs should not be getting away with.

If they say freddos will be 10p again, and then don't follow through with that, I can let that slide. But full on straight up lies that play to the emotions of people, only to go back on a big promise should not be without consequence.

Slightly off topic but the NHS should be untouchable at this point. That should be one of the few things that MPs should NOT have the power to destroy so easily. It should be protected, and any attempt to do otherwise be blocked at all paths. Its not perfect and may need tweaking, but if people of this country truely knew the cost of being ill and what it can do to lives when you have to pay for treatment (just look at vet bills for an example) then they would be a bit more thoughtful in their choices and risks they take with it.

There are many reasons people don't vote - as is their right to choose what they do with that vote. Viewed as wasted or not.

At the end of the day, your vote truely means nothing in terms of what gets done. You can vote in to power whoever you like, but that is where the power of your vote ends, ultimately you have no say of what gets done once they are in power.

Not saying this next government will fix everything but voting isn't about quick fixes it's about a journey. This election won't get us to the destination but it has the opportunity to being us closer. Yep 9 years of austerity cons forced on us and Spain, Greece, Italy...oh wait a minute that was the EU the very people who they want to stay in bed with. If the conservatives hadn't the EU would have.

Oh just for information some of the poorest constituencies were labour held constituencies under 12 years of labour government, they did nothing!!!! real heroes of people. Yes old enough to have lived through the misery of 12 years labour government and the previous labour government. When unemployment is the highest it will have been I decades, inflation will be the highest in decades all the poorest constituencies are even poorer. And none of promises are delivered and all you'll have is debts which will take decades of austerity to recover from and out children and grand children are paying the price for JC big unbelievable plan. Guess you can still blame conservatives or anyone else other than the ones who voted for him.

The reality is this: both labour and the conservatives are responsible for the current mess the UK finds itself in. Labour under Blair was no different from the conservatives in that the assault on the middle class continued unabated and the levels of poverty and debt (both personal and national) continued to rise throughout. Again, re-enforces the notion that in the west it matters not who is elected as they all dance to the same tune, and that is not to the public well being in general. They may throw us an occasional bone to placate the masses and maintain a veneer of legitimacy of the democratic system, but that is all.

The big elephant in the room that is never addressed is the control of the money creation process. Why? It's firmly in the hands of the ones that truly control society and are the puppet masters behind the western democratic system, and by extent, the political parties.

Really? Forcing people to vote undermines the very nature of a vote in the first and what it stands for, and also very dangerous as a large number of people who don't vote, do so because they have no idea what they are voting for so don't bother. The fact that some people don't vote is a good thing - people who vote while being uninformed are dangerous. Why do you think politics is the dirtiest game in history, lie, cheat and use underhanded tactics to win because the less people know the better you can control their will.

I think very few people seem to possess critical thinking and the ability to figure out whether what they are being told can possibly be true or not. Social media especially.

This means that many of those who don't understand do vote and conversely many that do are disillusioned so may be less likely to.

But yes, I stand by my opinion that every should have to vote unless they lack mental capacity, or are otherwise unable or ineligible.

I am fully aware that it's probably not a popular opinion.
