I hear you!

I hate dance music especially the stuff our gym pumps out in the classes.

Why can't they play some hip hop, indie, rock.....

I have brought my noise-isolating earphones but they are playing this crap at a volume I can hear over my own choices. I asked them to turn it down but they say it's all down to policy which they won't override.

"The Gymnopédies more your scene? "

Satie wouldn't be my choice for the gym but it's certainly more my type of music.

Have you seen the titles of some of Eric Satie's pieces? They are classic.

There weren’t many classical pieces with the word gym in to choose from.

I have opposite problems in all gyms I go to, they play crappy pop/ chart music or R & B. Always blast my own music on in earphones.

At least a dead one should be quiet and I can listen to my own stuff in peace.

by the big field

I wish they played it where I go- I just get constant R ‘n’ B ( note the ‘n’ and not R & B, which is entirely different. R ‘n’ B is so shite, even its name isn’t fucking original- just some cockwomble saying stuff that almost rhymes, over some decent tune they’ve stolen and fucked over )

Why do they have to play anything?

I can go into city center bars with music blaring out that nobody particularly wants to hear, and racks of tvs on the wall behind the bar showing the same images on each one, with no connection to the cacophony being spewed out. Nobodys asking for this shit. Can a member of the gym/bar industry who is actually responsible for this, tell us just why the fuck we have to hear it?

Good GOD yes

Always driven me nuts.

Once, as I was the only member there, I talked the attendant into putting BBC6music on for a half hour. It was sublime.

Another instructor would do spin classes to Nirvana & Slaves, pilates to the Mountain Goats. That was great, I miss him.

Same. Their dance shite is always audible over my own stuff on my headphones. Annoying as hell. Given how everyone wears headphones anyway, why play music at all?

The gym I go to added a play list to Spotify, people where allowed to add whatever they wanted. Sounds great right? Wrong. Lead to all sorts of disagreements. Lots of people listen to dogshit music. Someone added Ed Sheeran piece of you. A song virtually impossible to work out to. Dance music is, in the main, uptempo and up lifting. It’s supposed to make you work harder and faster

"Policy"? .. sounds like bollocks. What policy is there to pump out music at a high level? If you want music that loud you go to a club. Tell them you are sensitive to loud noises as it brings on PTSD.

Dance is ok for cardio. When I'm lifting weights I want to listen to Pantera and get angry and growly.

Mine did that once. It was truly awful. I wondered whether it was some bizarre comedy and our reactions were being filmed.

My old gym had a free jukebox which was pretty cool, whereas the new one has its own kind of radio station, playing a mixture but mostly crap. So headphones and Amazon music in my phone play the soundtracks to my workouts now.

I've used a couple of gyms that allow people to choose the playlists or hook up their own phones and the results have mostly been rock or metal

What annoys me more than the music in the gym are the self entitled pricks who think that the entire changing room wants to be subjected to their utterly shite music and play it on their phone.
