Do you think you're a Popular forum poster?

There are leaving threads and often comments along the lines of 'don't let the door hit your backside on your way out".

Other leaving threads the comments are lets say more sympathetic.

.

I think that some people deliberately antagonise and court drama in threads and posts and that results in people replying with less than polite posts on a leaving thread. It's not right but it is understandable to a certain extent.

I don't think I'm popular but I'm liked by those I like and that's what is important.

I don't think I'm widely liked or disliked really. If I left, probably nobody would notice for quite a while.

I think leaving threads can sometimes be guided by how they are written rather than any perceived popularity. If you come on whining that the site is shite so you're going, you can expect a few "don't let the door hit your arse comments"

As usual you sum it up pretty well.

As I've always said, I don't care if I'm liked, so long as I come across as the person I think, believe, and know I am (or at least try to be).

I think it depends how the initial responses go as to how the thread goes.

If replies are of the “Don’t let the door hit you on the way out” or “Who cares?” then it does seem that other posters will follow that trend but if it’s a nice reply to the thread “You’ll be missed” for example, then the thread is filled with nice messages.

I don't think anyone would notice if I vanished; I post more because I want to, because I have a comment to make. Sometimes it's appreciated, often not, doesn't stop my chipping in.

I probably wouldn't bother with a goodbye message because I wouldn't want to hear the crickets chirping and watch the tumble roll when nobody knows who in the hell I am.

I don't often comment on goodbye threads because I don't often know the OP. If we've interacted I will post accordingly.

I don't think I am popular and nobody would notice if I gave in to my doubts (about being seen by friends, family, work) and deleted my account.

There are so many men on here it is easy to get lost amongst them all.

I think maybe the frustration about not getting many responses or interest is something that I might need to work on myself - as in write a better profile/opening message and possibly upload better photos?

Who knows?

Most people who are decent and respectful of others are good forum posters. I'd put myself in this group.

Everyone is unique, so always adds something to posts. I don't court popularity and generally add value, even if not winning gushing awards from the masses. I keep life simple, similar to my forum use.

I think that on fab, popularity is a very fleeting and fickle creature. I've seen people court it and be forgotten in the space of a few weeks, often sacrificing a fair amount of respect and friends in the process.

Many people posting on this thread are well recognised and I would firmly place in the popular bracket by virtue of being well liked and regular posters. Would any of them be missed? Probably not after a few days.

I've left several times in the past and no one started threads in my honour or came looking for me, I think it takes a certain type of poster to elicit that.

Aww, that seems like a feeling i hear quite a lot of , and at times , in the not too distant past , ive felt the very same way. It isnt true though , and IS every bit a product of isolation and loneliness. , trouble is , though it can be a bit self fulfilling, you become a bit of a prisoner of those thoughts, so you start believing that script rather than challenge it, as its temporary , which it IS. You wont always feel this way , and your chances of seeing things turn around quickly , occur if you actively seek to improve your visibility to other people, The threads here can seem like a closed shop sometimes, but take time to browse through til you find a subject which really interests /affects or stimulates you, and contribute , youll soon find people respond because they read about your passion, write a little erotic story , and post it, if theres a place you would like to visit , mention it and ask others who have been what they think of it! If you are lonely, its alright to say so, express how you came to find yourself in this situation, dont think people arent interested , they are because they may well have been in similar circumstances ,and , while their advice may not work for you, their support can help you realise that you can see things differently when you make yourself known to people. You can message me any time and we can have a chat if it would help , love and kind regards anna x

As for the difference in farewells? I guess it all depends on how you played the game whilst you were in. Contribute loads, contribute kindly and openly, memorably? You're likely to get a fond farewell. Act like a twat and people will be glad to see the back of you.

Unfortunately the Forum doesn't work for everyone, no matter how much they'd like it to. You can always return and give it another go.

But would people get obsessed with likes as opposed to sharing their honest opinions?

There are some subjects that are treated like a sacred cow, and only those ready to commit fabicide will offer an opinion contrary to the popular view?

Am I popular...I'm a rejoinder so hardly known. Do I care? Yeah, I wouldn't want to be disliked, but I'll stay true to who I am regardless.

Well yeah, the brown nosers would have a field day! But the 'quieter' people might be surprised that people do notice them.

If the 'Like' was only visible to the person who posted it would be good. Like Fabs. Number of Likes but no names.

"I think I was at one point, but I've clearly rubbed a few of you up the wrong way. That, or the novelty has worn off now. Either way, I'm none to fussed, I'm here because I enjoy being here. When I don't, I'll bow out quietly.

I you still

I you too You sexy muthafucka!"

Happens to everyone. Popularity is a bit of wheel I've noticed. We all have our cycle of time in the sun, and then bottom of the pile.

People who get rubbed the wrong way generally do it to themselves. I may not agree with your views 100% (some i do) but I've not found them to be anything to fall out with you over. People are fickle, simple as.

"I find it interesting how many people think they're invisible when I actually recognise them a lot from their posting.

I wish there was a 'Like button. I think many people would be pleasantly surprised.

I'm sure we all have people we relate to in here.

Well yeah, the brown nosers would have a field day! But the 'quieter' people might be surprised that people do notice them.

If the 'Like' was only visible to the person who posted it would be good. Like Fabs. Number of Likes but no names.

I remember you. I realise that's not a compliment sorry. (Because it's me, not saying you're not memorable.)"

I agree with you Mavis! Some are intrepid thread starters, some of us just respond to either something that relates to us or have an opinion on.

I know I have backed away a bit lately, as a lot seem to think it is a popularity contest and I just don't or can't think that way, but after being here 10+ years, I know some people know who I am, whether I am liked or not is a different matter altogether, but I'm not one to really draw attention to myself, as I know others aren't either, so think they do go un-noticed, I think that is just life in general though

I didn't think I was noticed at all as I don't post very much, but I was surprised by the number of people that knew who I was at the MLS. Does that make me popular? I neither know nor care as that isn't my aim, but it's nice to know that my posts haven't gone completely unnoticed, and if even one has provided information or advice to someone then it has been worthwhile

Been here for about 7 years and I used to be a prolific thread starter, always posting positivity and good wishes and was considered as popular.

Recently, however, I have found myself largely ignored. Maybe I have become obsolete, maybe it is just a new generation of fabbers that would rather be controversial or rude to others.

I'm not sure what the future holds but I live in hope that the wheel continues to revolve and the current negativity is replaced.

In regards to the goodbye threads. Some people do it to say bye to those they have interacted with and enjoyed that interaction. They feel they deserve/respect them enough for a farewell. A thread does that for all at once instead of possibly messaging every single one.

For some the forums are nothing but a thing to pass the time. They post for no reason other than to do something. For others actual connections, friendships and more are made through them. A goodbye is honouring/respecting those you have conversed with.

As for the difference in responses, generally it will be down to how you have presented yourself to the population. If you have been an irritant you won't get many heartfelt partings, if you have been open and engaging/pleasant then that will be returned when you leave.

"I think that on fab, popularity is a very fleeting and fickle creature.

This ^^

I've been on the forum since 2012 so I am known. I'm liked by some and I even like some of them. Others can't stand me and in some cases it's probably mutual.

We have no idea how other people on the forums perceive us. We pop in and out irregularly and tend to contribute to the less antagonistic threads. Maybe some don’t get our humour but that’s ok. There is an eclectic mix of people on these forums and we are just one small piece of a beautifully impossible and sometimes infuriating jigsaw puzzle of fabsters.

"I think that some people deliberately antagonise and court drama in threads and posts and that results in people replying with less than polite posts on a leaving thread. It's not right but it is understandable to a certain extent.

I don't think I'm popular but I'm liked by those I like and that's what is important."

I couldn't agree more ,

Well with your first part,,

Very well planned threads and posts to get the max reaction while claiming not to offend, and yes it's total BS

As for the second part, .well I like your nipples do that count

Somewhere

I'm relatively new to the forums and I don't post often enough unless it's a topic I'm passionate about. If I left would anyone notice? Probably not and it doesn't matter. I would notify my friends ahead of time then leave quietly.

I'm not popular but then I've never set out to be. I've always said I'd rather be liked by ten people for being me than a hundred being something I'm not.

That said over the years the vast majority of posters I've genuinely respected have made it known that it's a mutual respect so I guess I'm being true to myself and that is important to me.

"I think I was at one point, but I've clearly rubbed a few of you up the wrong way. That, or the novelty has worn off now. Either way, I'm none to fussed, I'm here because I enjoy being here. When I don't, I'll bow out quietly.

I you still

I you too You sexy muthafucka!

Happens to everyone. Popularity is a bit of wheel I've noticed. We all have our cycle of time in the sun, and then bottom of the pile.

I don't know if I'm popular ..However I do comment on the forums often . It's nice to be nice, offer help or advice and have a little light hearted humour as this is what the forums are for. I am very fortunate that I personally know a lot of people that are very active on the forums from the club's and social events that I attend.

A wise man once told me it’s impossible to be both a popular forumite and popular on the club scene - and bizarrely I think he has a point!

I know lots of people in the NW club scene and lots of forumites from attending socials - and many of them I count as friends!

However - I don’t think I post often enough - or court popularity enough by being particularly flirtatious or starting lots of threads - to be overly popular as a forumite - and I’ve never really lost much sleep over it tbh!

I wouldn't say I'm popular, particularly.

I'll post if I have something to say, or feel I can add so etching to the debate, and occasionally I'm even in tune with the rest of the forumites

For the most part, tho, I feel like I'm slightly at odds with everyone. Which is the same in real life, and I doubt I'd be missed off here

There and to the left a bit

Am I popular? I neither know nor care, and I certainly don't court it, and in fact get a little embarrassed whenever my name is mentioned on threads by others in relation to how I interact here.

That said I certainly don't want to be unpopular either.

I just bumble along saying what I think openly and honestly and doing so because *I* want to - if people like me or dislike me because of that then so be it.

When the time comes for me to leave I shall just slip away quietly without fuss or fanfare apart from letting those that have come to mean something to me know - there certainly won't be a forum thread.

I don't think I'm popular at all. But I hope that sometimes I can pass on some bit of knowledge that helps another. When I've finally had enough of this place, it will be done without pomp or ceremony, that never been my style and I doubt anyone would notice anyways.

I think when you stop giving a shit about popularity and pleasing the forum masses who don't and never will know much about you then that's when you'll gain your freedom and start enjoying your experience. Treat everyone equally, allow new folk to have a say, don't suffer fools and just enjoy it or don't waste your time here.

Threads are very easy to "work" to 175 if you have half a brain and the desire, but it doesn't make you a popular forumite (proof in case Nippy!). It can get you noticed which can be both a blessing and a curse. Also popular on the surface doesn't mean popular in the backchat that goes on and vice versa.

I was having an interesting discussion with a friend about what ppl actually get out of the forum the other day and I truly believe that for most forumites, on balance, it's not a positive experience, however there are highs and the majority of folk here are willing to accept a lot of lows for those occasional highs. When the highs start to run out we'll often behave irrationally in an attempt to regain them, however to a level headed outsider this behaviour is usually pretty transparent and obvious. The forum scares me at times tbf with how fickle fill can be, but mostly I enjoy it, it's the place I come to purge my mind of all the nonsense it accumulates and I'm grateful for that. I have a limited number of good and trusted friends and I have a beautiful woman I've just started seeing rn who doesn't chat here but she noticed me showing off and acting like a twat here and contacted me off the back of that. So yes, I love this fucked up place, it's a lesson in humanity!

What prompted the question OP?

Do I think I'm popular?

Hmmm.

I think I can be entertaining, I think people sometimes read what I write from behind a cushion as it can be to the core brutally honest.

I think people respect my heart on sleeve approach and no nonsense attitude, yet the fact I'll bend if someone points things out I may not have noticed and I'm wrong, happily admitting it.

I'd rather be respected for being me than being popular for blowing smoke up peoples arses and opening my legs to all and sundry. I'll call a cunt a cunt, but also give credit and hat doffing where it's due.

I didn't notice you'd gone, but I've noticed that you're back. Which is slightly weird

Further to my original post, I enjoy seeing certain people post on here, and sometimes interact, but don't think I'm popular as such as it never leads to any private conversations and thus I am yet to make any friends off the back of the forum

It’s a shame to see so many people posting that they would not be missed. Of course they would. The forum is for many not just a few. The many members and diversity is what I like. I read the posts but don’t always comment. Doesn’t mean I or others think you are invisible. Anyhow. Back the the opening post. Yes I see that different people get different responses. But I hate when people are negative about those leaving. Just ignore the post rather than comment.

There are leaving threads and often comments along the lines of 'don't let the door hit your backside on your way out".

Other leaving threads the comments are lets say more sympathetic.

,

I think everyone cares what people think at some level. They must do or they wouldn't comment, they'd just busily get on with not caring.

Having said that, I don't care to a large extent what people think of me but I only realised that when I saw the true extent to which people are prepared to go to get people to like them.

The good opinion of very few matters to me. If my genuine self isn't what someone I don't know likes I can't change that, nor would I wish to. Caring about it would be fruitless
