Are you guilty if of it? Do you know someone who is? Did you have to leave Facebook because of it?!

"Feeling old here, but the heck is this?!"

Wiki says..

Sadfishing is the act of someone making exaggerated claims about their emotional problems to generate sympathy. Sadfishing is a common reaction for someone going through a hard time, or pretending to be going through a hard time.

Ohh ok I get this.

We don’t do this.

Many people on my social media do. I don’t get annoyed or anything. I just don’t interact!

I'm not guilty of it but I see it and can't help but roll my eyes.

I know there are people who genuinely have issues and are reaching out for support but it's hard to separate them from the drama queens just looking for attention.

It's attention seeking emotional manipulation and celebs do it all the time. It generates massive amounts of followers and sponsorship so it is lucrative

There's a trend of Hatfish going around at the moment too - people who look good in hats, but awful without them

So do people end up shagging them with the hat still on?

Sometimes your day has gone so badly that your fingers vent out a little frustration, but your mind kicks in and thinks better about revealing to all and sundry.

I think what's far worse on Social Media is snide digs at people. Or verbally attacking for not behaving or reacting how you would in a similar situation.

If it's a money making social platform then I've no time for it, if it's not, then I've more patience.. If it's one of my friends, then I'm the one sending the "What's up?" Message.. because I give a fuck.

Me? I get more irritated by shit that really matters, like the state of the planet, greed, manipulation and politics.. than someone seeking a little bit of attention because they've had a shitty day.

Oh so much this!! I've got a strict policy of only ever being positive on FB and tend to spend my time there looking at and reading things I love. But it's impossible to avoid it completely and I just don't get why people have to be so fucking ugly to each other

God no, if the hat comes of and they're minging then that's the end of it for me!

How do you know they exaggerated though? Like do you REALLY know?

Reply privatelyReply in forumReply +quote

Or that they pretended.

It would only apply if you could prove it wasn't a genuine call for support..

"How do you know they exaggerated though? Like do you REALLY know? "

Yep. Assuming people are only posting to get attention sounds a bit lacking in empathy to me.

And what's wrong with asking for attention if that's what you need, anyway.

If you're a good friend of one of these people you will know if they need help, you will also know if they enjoy the drama of people asking them what's wrong when all that happened is they broke a nail
