"I only really drink alcohol on special occasions so maybe 3 or 4 times in year and I get really tired of being told that I should drink. Does anyone else that doesn't drink get this from other people? They either think I must being boring by not drinking or find it sad. Ironically I find it a little sad that the same people berating me for not drinking are so dependent on booze to have a good night. It's not that I don't enjoy drinking, I just don't feel the need to do so on order to have a good time. Of course each to their own but just wanted to vent on the matter as I get told quite often and wondered if anyone else had experienced the same? (clearly I need to stop hanging round with d*unks ![]() Don't drink.

It spoils the evening. | |||

"Try 'I don't want the calories' I'm not really much help admitted. My group of friends don't drink alcohol. It's coffee and bottles of water as things erm progress. They really should respect your decision though ![]() That's where it started for me, I started dieting and lost a lot of weight a few years back (unfortunately put a lot back on) and I just cut down drastically ever since. The response I tend to get from that is "there's not much in a whiskey and diet though" but it's a good idea.

"Does anyone else that doesn't drink get this from other people? " We get it all the time. Neither of us rarely ever drinks alcohol. Basically we don't like the effect that it has of dulling our senses; so adding that to the potential excess calories and the possible health risks (associations with cancer etc) means we don't drink. Neither do we give a flying feck what other people think. If we seem boring to them we don't care.

"We both don’t drink haven’t for a very long time , always getting told we’re boring for not drinking and to loosen up . One we don’t NEED a drink to have a good time & two really don’t enjoy the taste . Makes us laugh when we see people constantly on social media posting numerous pictures of them holding a drink to the camera convincing one & all they’ve having a fantastic time in life , yep I wonder who they’re trying to convince ?? Of course each to their own but just wanted to vent on the matter as I get told quite often and wondered if anyone else had experienced the same? (clearly I need to stop hanging round with d*unks ![]() I've never drank any alcohol my whole entire life. I usually get asked about drinking by strangers who I'm meeting for the first time but a simple confident explanation has been sufficient. If people harass you to drink then you have to reconsider your social circle and if it's family they need to respect your choice and not go on about it. You have to draw a line and make others respect it 1 way or another. In respects to people needing Alcohol to have a good time it seems to be a mostly British cultural norm and mostly extreme in the rest of Europe. As someone who travels alot I see Europe in most has a better control when it comes to drinking but that is changing as is obesity because we in the western world can't seem to keep what we enjoy to ourselves lol I as a tee totaller have seen so many friends and colleagues rely on alcohol almost depend on it to have a good time and it's honestly immature and pathetic to me but it is the norm in our culture unfortunately. The way people change by and due to it is unreal to. But have you noticed how drinking is subtly pushed on you from an early age? As someone that has never drank I have noticed how every opportunity tv shows have they will normalize drinking and having wine with a meal as if it's what civilised people do. No it's what the Romans did and they were not civilised at all haha merely on power and had money oh wait isn't that ironic lol

(clearly I need to stop hanging round with d*unks ![]() ![]() ![]() It’s easy to not drink if you don’t want to. Just say you are not drinking, end of. If you need an excuse, drive to the venue so you can’t drink. Nobody needs to bow to pressure and if people do pressure you then perhaps change who you see.

"I had a colleague give me a vodka and orange at his leaving do when I'd only asked for an orange juice, and I didn't notice until he told me, he thought it was funny. Let's just say I was less than happy. Mr R" People like that are just arseholes mate. When people try this with me i just leave the drink on the table and get my own, for special cases i will tip it into thier drink. Most of the time though it is enough to just watch the pain in their eyes as the drink goes flat on the table or they have to admit defeat and drink it themselves.

"I find that Britain has a very strange relationship with alcohol. Whereby if you don't go out and get hammered you're seen as dull by lots of people and people are proud of being trollied and acting like knobs! Weird! I do drink when I want to, I don't drink when I don't. I rarely get d*unk and I don't bow to peer pressure over it." Alcohol is supposed to be cut with food. You're supposed to drink it while you're eating, not pour it down your neck. A couple of times a year I get a craving for a beer but I mean A beer. And I'll drink it over hours, I sip it like wine cos I just like the taste, not the effect.

(It's hardly an accolade in my eyes)" Not for you but for the culture and society as a whole getting d*unk was seen an a male act of recognition into a man. During the 90s females wanted so called equality which meant try to be the same as men which doesn't mean equibility and thus we got the 90s ladettes urgh. So now it's a confused era we live in. I believe my reply from above still sufficed for OP though with this matter at hand.
