Hence the reason for screen stutter or change of light on fast moving pictures displayed." 144hz is the refresh rate, and they come with 1ms response time usually, so no it's not a gimmick. A gimmick would be something like a 50x hybrid zoom on a smartphone. | |||

It doesn't lower it, it matches your FPS to prevent screen tearing. So no, it won't lower your refresh rate as long as your frame output is equivalent or higher than your monitors refresh rate. | |||
