Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound

Tomorrow (3/12/2019) is the International Day of Persons with Disabilities day.

We're asked to wear purple of #PurpleLightUp to draw attention to disability and encourage businesses, and the rest of us, to make changes that enable economic empowerment of disabled people.

I saw a report today (I can't remember which news source) that said 19% of working age people have a disability but their employment rate is only 53% (? approx) and the pay gap is 25%.

As anyone of us can find ourselves disabled at any time we need to think about disabled people as people and not something other.

Will you wear purple with me tomorrow?

I will be wearing purple, would be nice to see more positivity around disabilities. Less of the disability and more of a different ability x

The social model of disability is about the way society does things and removing barriers, not the person's difference, as I'm sure you know.

My disability is not visible and wouldn't describe my ability as different because we all have different abilities.

I'm glad you're celebrating. I'm thinking of taking in big Purple Quality Street (although I haven't checked whether any of the team has a nut allergy). Cabbury's is purple... I'll find safe purple chocolate.

I'll wear some purple and my invisible disabilities lanyard for the day.

Hmmmm date day...I'll wear those things when I'm not in bed.

I wore purple.

Just saw the Beco soap advert.

"CLARITY-The Soap C?, the charity behind BEC? creates over 10,000 days of employment every year for its staff – 80% of whom are visually impaired, disabled or disadvantaged. Its ambition, with the launch of this feel good and playful brand, is to generate 2,000 days of employment in 2018, enabling ever more people to have a positive impact on the world around them through their consumer choices."

Thank you!

I wore my purple winter coat, purple scarf and a purple jumper. I'm going to try and be as purple as possible for the rest of the week.

I haven't seen that but I'll now look for the soap.
