Music to bring you round

I'm not going to lie, had a bad few months in my life at moment due to various circumstances. I've been in a bit of a slump doing as little as possible, watching TV, movies etc.

But today I put on some music that has made me feel alot better. Initially it was Simple Minds: Verona and followed by ELO live: Wembley or Bust. These are groups from a long, long distant past during happier days.

What music can bring up your mood when you don't feel your best?

I used say ska but since I've lost my uncle who was well into ska it makes me cry sometimes now.

Usually something upbeat like rancid or punk. Depends on why I'm low as to what I use. If I'm angry I usually use more mental and angry type stuff

Gorillaz at Glastonbury doing Clint Eastwood with Snoop.

It's so fucking joyous.

Or Nina Simone doing Love Me or Leave Me.

Most music cheers me up or chills me out.

In the reverse, Placeebo reflects a dark time in my life, and I can't listen to it without my mood plummeting.

2012 was a very tough year for me, hospital, bereavement, you name it. I spent two hours during the summer watching The Cure's set from Reading and I forgot about everything. All the shit just faded away and it was just me and this incredible band preforming these beautiful songs that have been in my life for so long. It was a break I really needed.

Another song that helped me through one of the worst times I've been through is Telephone Line. But pretty much anything by ELO makes me happy

Works both ways, not necessarily to do with the tune but to do with the memories associated. Some of the stuff that made me happy last year would make me sad now....

Have you ever heard that version that some people think is Bowie singing (it's not) where the trumpet comes in for its solo a bar early and stays that way until the end?

And the clearly southern singer chucks a couple of Scouse pronunciations in for good measure!

I know exactly what you mean with ELO. It's great memories as by dad bought the albums for us when he was alive. I'm watching this Wembley or Bust concert that was on TV the other night and everyone looks so happy in the audience. Great memories flooding back...

Sweet talking woman

Turn to Stone

All Over the world

Don't bring me down....

Twice I've been watching films with my son and he's asked me what a song is and both times it's been an ELO tune. The boy recognises quality

My folks did the same for me. I wouldn't mind what he liked if it made him happy but I am thrilled that he likes good quality music

Virtually anything by Depeche Mode, bar a few sad songs.

Most songs by Covenant

Most by Ultravox

Swedish Models & Cocaine by Faderhead

Most songs by Combichrist
