Just watching Corrie (yes i know its not real) and the Peter/Leanne/Simon thing got me wondering about how things normally end up when relationships split up and there are step children involved

Leanne has raised Simon like he was her own, but biologically not his (Simon's mother died i think) and now Peter (Simons real dad) has left Leanne and refusing Leanne access

Does she have any legal rights to see her 'son'

As a father you will be amazed how few rights you have if your not married and your names not on the birth certificate , even if the child is yours and you still live with the mother.

no matter

No sadly she doesnt.. but she could mix it by saying they are both alchoholics. only thing that will happen is he will be taken into care then. but this is a soap so anything can happen

i think the biggest question is what kind of a partent would use their child as a pawn in their 'get back at my ex' game

its amazing how many people do this with children that are their exs never mind step parents, personally i think its very selish to use a child in this way and should seriously look at their parenting

its usually the kid who is the last one to be consulted about whether they do or don't want to see parents/step parents...

Which is odd but then some people like to use their kids as bargaining chips

little house on the praire

Well i had a husband and we had a son, we got divorced, husband met new woman already with a child, they then went on and had two more. Husband and second wife split up. My son still saw second wife, second wifes first child still lived with husband and siblings, then they went to live with second wife. But all the kids where treated equally by everyone involved in their lives
