The first time, expect it to be fairly painful, but not excruciating, provided you have gone for a properly trained therapist with experience.

Eventually it will hurt less and less.

I've had a hollywood (all off) for years.... in the last year I started doing it myself rather than in salon, but I wouldn't recommend it if you've never done it before.

Men do get an erection from hot wax going on their bits - I used to work in a salon many years ago, and had to do the deed a few times... Part of our pre-care was to explain that this does happen, it's completely natural. We got a few odd looks as there were always two girls in the room for safety reasons and so that one can stretch the skin while the other applied the wax and pulled off!

There was pre-cum once....but the guy was mortified throughout. He actually was breathing like he was in labour. He asked me if I could just wash the wax off after the second go on his balls... Eeermmm....nope. Once it's on, it needs to be pulled off!

Great advice there - I also get really sensitive before my period, so avoid doing it then, and what's the point anyway? The painkiller thing is a bit of a myth, or at least hasn't done much for me so I don't bother.

All of it, no it doesn’t hurt but maybe because I’ve done it for years.

Take a painkiller a couple of hours before if you think you might need it.

My suggestion is don’t let it get too long, if it is already, trim it. Longer hair hurts more to be waxed.

I’d be interested in trying a wax but I don’t think I’d ever get over having to show my flange to a beauty therapist. I know they are highly trained professionals and all that, but still...

That, and I’m bothered about regrowth being itchy/uncomfortable!

You'll get products to exfoliate and strengthen the hair to reduce any ingrowing hairs.

And aloe vera is your friend.

I've been waxed a few times but only Brazilian. That's enough for me, I can deal with the rest myself.

I hate being stubbly for a couple of weeks in between waxes so i end up shaving
