And if I'm ever in London I'm usually getting there past 10pm at night and getting up at 7am the next day so there's not really much chance of any fun haha." I did the same in Liverpool but the other way round. Travelled from London to Liverpool on a weekly basis. But I did get to stay over so had the chance on the odd occasion to arrange meets to let off some work tension | |||

Well not with that attitude they won't! "Meh! I once had train delays and by the time I got there I was far more interested in crawling into bed with my McDonald's (only place I could get something to eat at that time). I didn't even get up for breakfast the next day I was so tired. Can you tell I'm not much of a fan of travelling for work? | |||

"I travel quite a bit, mostly in but some international. I was based in the north east for a project a few years back and there was a great guy working the same project in the same hotel. We enjoyed our time together knowing that at the end of the project we'd head off our separate ways. It worked really well." *Mostly in the UK | |||

We only qualify for overnight accomodation if you would have to leave before 6am to travel the same day so it's not even that often I get overnight accomodation, it's usually there and back in the same day which is often a 14 hour day including travel. | |||

I was thinking the same thing. I often try to spend two days somewhere so I can have one free evening. "Its just the way it is and I'm hardly unusual in my area of work. Money is tight as it is and when it's public money, the general public often consider it wasteful to spend more just for staff to be more comfortable. We try to stick to conference calls as much as possible but some things require being physically present so we travel as cheaply as possible. | |||

The one time I did manage a social for when I was working near where they live. We arranged it weeks ahead of time as it was scheduled well in advance. It was one of the very few occasions in the last 10 years that my work involved a bit of UK travel." I have a reasonable amount of flexibility and can often arrange to be in places like London or Birmingham fairy easily to tie in to when others might be there. It’s worked well. | |||
