Googooders

Lichfield

I've just invented that phrase to describe a section of the online community.

You know the sceanrio; somebody goes onto any given forum and ask something like; "does anybody know where there's a Clarks shoe shop in Billericay?" when they could just google it and find out for themselves.

There's always some person (and more often than not they'd be from Aberdeen or somewhere) who dives straight onto Google for the answer and a after quick glance on Google Street, posts a reply saying that it's 3 doors down from Greggs..."oh and don't forget to get me a steak bake while you're there. LOL!"

Well that person from this day on will be known as a 'Googooder' but rather than deride them, I think we should make good use of them and set them some tasks. They seem to have the time so if you're a liitle too busy (to search for it yourself) post your request up here and let the googooders do their stuff...nothing too highbrow, it's not a stealth boast thread.

Right, I'm look for flights to Lisbon or Porto for a long weekend, date is flexible but preferably around Spring time. Friday out, Monday back, Midlands airport. I've spent nearly a minute and a half looking and I can't find anything.

If there's anything you can't be arsed to look for, feel free to use this thread and the charitable ways of the googooder.

What about the person who can't be bothered to Google something? Shall we can him/her a Google-dodger?

I get it all the time at work, people from within the company ringing me to ask if I have the number, address or opening hours for one of our suppliers, when all I'm going to do is Google it myself while they're on the call. They could quite easily do it themselves and save wasting my time!

And what do we call the person who sarcastically comments “wouldn’t it be amazing if we had technology at our fingertips which enabled us to search for information. I know, let’s invent it and call it Google!”?

Asking for a friend, obviously

I want to see what happens to society as we know it when alexa unexpectedly switches on and randomly asks us something one morning.

Southport / Ellesmere Port

I went into a book shop once and asked for a specific book that they didn't have. Out of the corner of my eye I noticed they were looking for it on Amazon. He then said he could order it from "his supplier" the next day

I tend to be a googooder with a twist I send them a link to LMGTFY aka let me Google that for you, it searches Google for whatever they asked me and then gives them the results

I love the term.

Although I prefer the attention seekers that check themselves in at A&E departments on Facebook.

Hiding in the shadows

I can understand people asking for recommendations on Facebook.

I'd rather hire someone to do a job, based on friends previous good experiences.

But asking stuff that can be found quicker on a search than it takes to type into FB & wait answers , just seems odd.

Our local page is always full of seemingly stupid questions... Seen this week..

"what time does Asda open on Sunday?"

"what time does the farmers market start on Saturday?"

"anyone know the councils phone number?"

And just seen one from a friend asking "where can I buy trainer whitener from?"

How about the cobblers... You know the shop, the one on the parade, with the flats above it... Which you live in

We get it on a learning Spanish forum I'm on. You'll get things like 'How do you say hello in Spanish' ?

Apparently it's 'Hola' by the way

I feel a right fool as i thought all those people were very smart and knew all the answers off the top of their heads.

So they are really just dickheads the same as the person asking the question but they want to come across as been intelligant.

They would first need to google what a conversation is.
