I don't mean on Fab, I mean when you talk to people face to face or on the phone in your day to day life.

I'm from North London, whether I'm talking to a delivery driver or a doctor or a cop my speech is always peppered with "love", "darlin" or "baby". I didn't really think about it until recently when someone didn't like it and asked me not to. I found I couldn't and in the end I decided I didn't want to have to try and stop being me.

Do you do this? And what are the regional variations in your home town? Guys from the North East call me "pet" or "bonny lass" which I love Does anyone not like it when people do it to them? I've never minded unless it's deliberately sarcastic which is another matter.

If you do mind please say so. I'm not looking to be agreed with, I really want to know. Thanks, possums!! (I might get some glasses like Dame Edna used to wear, I'd so rock that look )

I used to hear 'love' and 'darling' a lot when I was growing up, especially from the elder ladies in Dagenham. It didnt matter to me.

I hear the word 'baby' a lot when I am in LA. I am 6'2 and quite well built. I am like, wtf? From what angle do I look like a baby?

I get called princess over there.

Here - my name. Men over here arent much into the "pet names" and when they do it, it can be a bit...sexist? For lack of a better way to put it I guess. It just doesnt come off the same way as it does there. So it could be a cultural thing. UK men have a bit of charm to it. Whereas here, it's not for charm. Make sense?

Welsh Lass

“Babes” or “Beaut” are used in these parts (Valleys) and occassionally “Darl”

I use pet names on my kids (babycakes, spud, sugarpuff, etc) but not on anybody else.

I don’t mind it.

Everyone I like at some point ends up as babe, lovely, chicken or gorgeous.

I love it when I get called pet or petal, but queen or princess do make me grit my teeth. I tend not to complain though as that's my issue rather than the person saying it who doesn't mean any offence by it.

When I lived in stoke someone called me pidge (as in pigeon). I heard it as bitch and kicked off good style

I call most people sausage, man woman or child, especially if I cant remember their name. Thankfully no one has ever taken offence as it's never been intended and I think people can tell I have no bad intentions

I use 'sweetie' or 'lovely' on my friends, my kids all have pet names too.

Don't mind what friends call me but when a stranger say 'babe' or 'love' it feels a bit to personal to me, not brave enough to say though.

Biddulph

I may not particularly like certain terms of endearment, but I never get offended. I take them in the way they are used, a term of endearment.

I am surprised at how many people are posting they don't mind either today. In the past on here, most threads were people saying they hate pet names.

Hiding in the shadows

I don't like messages, where people, OK men, that start with "Hi babe, gorgeous, sexy" etc

It just feels smarmy

It's different when it's friends, people who actually know me..

But most of them call me "twat"
