I've got loads of favourite Smiths songs but it amuses me just how misunderstood they were/are. To me they were one of the great guitar pop bands of all time, there's nothing too deep about them. I think some people look for something that isn't there.

I also think Morrissey enjoyed poking fun at his own audience but when he realised that his own audience would roll over and have its tummy tickled at anything he said, he started to do really shitty things like support Britain First.

He's a lost cause, attention seeker of the highest order.

I like the stuff Johnny Marr did and still does but found Morrisey to be a bit conceited and didn't like too much of their stuff, whilst ackowleding them as good lyricists and guitar players.

I do like Marr's solo music though.

not just for shitting over his former band mates to line his own pockets and massage his ego, but for thinking he's important enough to demand any venue or festival he plays is meat free. Sorry Moz, you ain't that important and non tour crew make a point of bringing in a cornish pasty or meat pie for lunch, just to give you a middle finger salute

Neil Hannon did an outstanding cover of it with The Divine Comedy. There's also a lovely cover of The Headmaster Ritual by Radiohead.
