When communicating i find it better to read facial expressions, make eye contact and listen to the tone of a voice. Impossible to do when texting.

Text is so bad for conveying tone isn't it. Even with emoticons things can come across the opposite to what you intended. So amazing how the same thing can have opposite meaning depending on how it is said.

There's that too. I think there are one or two people here who feed off the drama of being offended rather than give you the benefit of the doubt.

I come across the way I am in my profile if anyone reads it.

On forums I come across the way I would answer but life isn't simply a forum where people hurl 1 question and we answer...it's about back and forth communication so I don't think anybody can say they come across on the forums they would irl more that they have answered something as best they could using type rather than voice which is more than words but tonality and a deeper expression.

So for me personally I judge based on profile words used and how they are expressed if at all.

Yep. That is possibly due to the vacuum between transmit and receive... and the fact that one can sometimes run the risk of getting shot down on flames or hauled over verbal hot coals for voicing their own opinion....especially if it goes against the flow.

It's difficult to convey humour in the written form. You can say something and people find it funny, you can write the same thing and it just dies. In real life I am genuinely funny, I know this because many people tell me so but here it's rare when I receive any recognition at all. Am I different here? No. Am I received differently here? Yes.

I guess that's difficult to quantify, as I imagine not many of us truly know how others perceive us here?

I did a work exercise once, where everyone in the group had to write anonymously a word to describe another. The descriptions were reas out and boy were some people mystified.

I spend a lot of my time looking after people and their lives...no idea if I come across as caring in here.

You'd have to ask people who's met me to reply to that really. I try to come across as me, my profile is pretty blunt and maybe makes me sound like a mardy cow, but I'm a sweet little bunny in person really

"In these forums? Or do you feel that you come across differently to people than you are in reality? "

Some people despise what I say in the forums, and block me. Other people have met me because of what I say in here. I’m just me, no pretensions, no faking it, I say it as I see it, take me or leave me

I'm pretty sure I come across as a miserable cunt, that seems accurate.

I am much more tolerant and easy to talk than on here. Its easier to open up and trust someone more when you can see their face

I am bit more well behaved in real life. I am probably on my worst behavior here and on my best behavior in real life

This brings out the naughty in me. This is my Fab persona, my vanilla self is slightly different.
