Drummers

My man Fury Whip asked a question that deserves a whole thread. Who are your favourite drummers?

I've picked three but there are so many more I could mention. Nick Mason, a master of subtlety and atmosphere. Keith Moon, pioneering, incredible to watch and a huge influence on my third choice. And Neil Peart, if I had to pick just one it would be the professor.

Looking forward to hearing yours

Jesus, he gave his kit a thrashing back in the day, and he's influenced me even more than Neil Peart. I even switched to traditional grip just to look cool like Copeland

Nice to get a mention.

Dave Grohl, I learned playing along to him and Dale Crover from the Melvins. Dales style and technique is amazing. Igor Cavalera from Sepultura, Vinnie Paul from Pantera and Gene Hoglan from Death/Testament/Dark Angel etc are all drummers I look up to.

Never seen Taylor as underrated. I've noticed hes quite humble and doent think hes as good as he is.

Travis Barker though, way overrated. Tre Cool from Green Day could drum circles around him and his tiny little toy drum kit. Dont mean be rude sorry, just have a bug bear with that guy.

Taylor seems definitely underrated to me. He should be constantly up there in discussions as the best. And from a critic level is, but from an every day music fan level, I don't see it. Very humble though. Yeah.

Tre Cool is a good drummer, to be fair. He's definitely up there.

I just always liked Travis, and don't worry, you didn't come across as rude to me. Travis Barker may take offence but I didn't

There are loads of drummers I really rate, Taylor Hawkins did a great session on Alanis Morissette's Jagged little pill tour, Will Calhoun of Living Colour is really funky, Stuart Copeland of the Police is so imaginative, Tico Torres of Bonjovi has a really cool Latin feel to his Rock styling.

Basically though, they're pretty much all great.

I’m currently driving myself nuts figuring out how the hell to re-train myself as a drummer to learn how to play this.

The technicalities of it are outstanding, even to play it as a hand exercise would be incredibly difficult.

To be able to play it with your feet is on another level.
