Whatever happened to good old pigs trotters and stuffed lamb hearts with a peppercorn jue and propa home made cheese cake. Not that Iceland shite they serve in premier inns

In most average, bog standard restaurants/pubs everything is wet, drowned in gravy or vinegar or some other sauce...and meat is cooked until it resembles a block of wood.

Service in a lot of places is way below the standard it should be. There's just much better value and quality to be had in other countries.

I can't remember the last time I went out somewhere new and was overly impressed.

Lifes departure lounge NN9 Northamptonshire East not West MidlandsMidlands

One of the many jobs I have had in my lifetime was selling refrigerated vans to the food industry, this involved early morning trips to the big 3 London Markets, Sithfield, New Covent Garden and Billingsgate all of which had super cafes serving up proper full English (Heart Attack) Breakfasts, Fried everything plus bubble and Squeak and a pint mug of tea and doorstep slices of bread and butter, Happy days

Exactly.

A meal in a good independent restaurant is usually pricey.

But there are some excellent farmers markets that are now making traditional foods on the go for a decent price.

That's a very common misconception - still found in some older textbooks - in reality however, anyone caught selling or serving rancid meat was in for a lot of trouble.

We have some of the best restaurants in the world. If you choose to eat in a Hungry Horse or some other shitty pub chain and summarise that as typical British food, that's entirely up to you but it doesn't make it right.
