Should we try Abu Hamza in the UK or hand him over to the Americans?

The guy committed crimes while in the UK and now the Americans want to take over and take him over there for prosecution. Should we hand him over as requested or should we put him to trial here?

The law and system we use, has decided he can be sent to America.

I say let America have him, but if they go for the death penalty which is likely, I doubt we will send him as it will be against his rights etc ! We the uk have not exredited people in the past due to the grounds the face the death penalty in the country we are sending him ! Personally if he wants to incite murder against our troops etc, I'm happy to see him get his just deserts. In the best possible taste . An eye for an eye etc ! But on a plus note he did lose his eye and hand clearing mines in afghanistan ! An there is still plenty of mines to be cleared still . Could save our boys a job !

Just a note on legality, however vile the criminal, we don't have the death penalty here and only extradite to anywhere including the US, that agree not to execute. Rightly in my view but think I'll be in the minority in that on here.

isn't it strange that we are willing to send a person who sets up a site that directs people to where they can download films etc for free with no issues yet when we try to get rid of 6 wasters that preach hatred to any non believers the courts get all excited. The reason they are worried is that the yanks will lock them up in a cell and not their £3000 a month house paid for by taxpayers and treat them like the criminals they are. We are to lenient with them and as for free speach, lets all tell him to feck off somewhere else. Rant over

O'Dwyer broke the law yes, broke American law yes, but his servers were not located within American jurisdiction and he should have been tried in the UK. Will the Americans hand over Mark Zuckerberg to the German authorities for allowing the trolling of a German model to occur on Facebook that led to the poor wretch committing suicide? I doubt it.

to the poster re friend cannot enter usa for been busted over having a joint.. he cannot apply for a visa waiver (esta) but would have to apply via us embassy for a visa with proof it was a minor drugs offence committed in youth that way they would consider entry other then that usa has a zero tolerance policy towards convictions for drug use.

re hazma and his kind the yanks have a nice 6 x 4 room where he can spend 23 hours a day reflecting on his hatred for the west for the rest of his natural life get him n his kind on a plane pronto.

Let him go to the States. If he gets tried and found gulity here, he'll get away with a 6 month rehabilitation order and 200hrs community service, whereas in the States he'll get 900years.

He and the rest of them should be tried here in my opinion. They are British, they committed the offences here, it is believed by many that they remain a threat. If our laws are in such a mess that we cannot cope with our own headaches then we have a responsibility to sort those laws out.

One of these guys has been detained without charge for 7 years! Something seems very wrong about that.

Should we accept that British Justice cannot cope with certain cases? This needs to be addressed.

I believe in the rule of law.

The European Human Rights Act, also known as the Criminals Charter, should not benefit terrorists or troublemakers who are not from an EU State.

But am concerned about the Babar Ahmad case. UK website alegedly raising funds for terrorist organisation/s. he has not been tried in the UK was only arrested on behalf of the USA that was 7 years ago... my bigest concern is if we let them jail him... do we then have to extradite and jail ALL the fundraisers in the USA who supported the IRA? prisons would burst with over capacity!

If you look at it face on you are right it would be interesting if the British government made counter claims for US citizens who supported the IRA.

I wasn't aware he had already been convicted and released in the UK to be honest I just had him down as some evil chap with badness on his mind. It does seem a bit much though the EU courts saying if we can deport or not though.
