All over the place! Northwesr, , Southwest

At age 10 I knew all of the main families, what period they lived and where. Bird hipped or lizard hipped. Theories of extinction and the relative size of most compared to a person. What a geek I was!

Unsurprisingly, T-Rex was my fave. Couldn't wrap my head around how something so large and powerful ever existed

Here comes my geek mode... that makes me mad though! A multi BILLION dollar corporation just left to rot and die? Yes there was an incident (first world movie) but surely Mr Masrani had a legal team and a will? John Hammond trusted he would care for his life dream, “spare now expense” I find the second movie to have plot holes in the story... same as all of a sudden Hammond having a “secret” partner (another sick old man) why didn’t he rescue them all sooner? So many questions..no cannon answers...

It's my understanding that they went back to the books and early JP stories for the newer films. Watch Klayton Floriti on YouTube, he dives deep into the lore lol.

Another "dinosaur" nerd here - prehistoric creatures more accurate.

There were no such thing as flying or aquatic dinosaurs. They were flying reptiles and aquatic reptiles.

Much of which I learned as a child has now been adjusted or debunked (back and forth quite often) however I have always been drawn to the evolution marvel that is the Tyrannosaur family, especially the Rex.

Although crocodiles are up there, virtually unchanged after 200 million years. Though technically not dinosaurs, they are a very close relative with dinosaurs being the link between crocodiles and birds (each others closest living relatives).

Indeed, JP is what enforced my love for these creatures.

Dilophosaurus was also about twice the size (maybe 3 times) of those shown in the movie too.

Velociraptor being the biggest (but coolest) inaccuracies.

Always the velociraptor for me. Spent many a day with my bros pretending to be one"

Hate to break it to you but the velociraptor as you know it does not exist.

Velociraptor was about the size of a chicken or turkey and covered with feathers.

Utahraptor are the closest, however they too were also likely covered in feathers and while they were smart for a dinosaur, not even close to the levels of pigs, dolphins, or primates.

Well, I think the size was based on deinonycus

Based upon yes, though Deinonychus was still smaller than the movie raptors. Largest specimen being 5ft vs the 5.5 - 6ft of the movie. Certainly not the perfect killing machine that the general public know them as.

That similarity had caused paleontologists to rename Brontosaurus as Apatosaurus excelsus, one of 3 separate species of the Apatosaurus grouping.

However, they are still debating this theory and have now reconsidered the brontosaurus to be its own separate species again after the latest research.

And yes, live near the badlands in Alberta!

I've always felt drawn to the giant sauropods. Diplodocus as a kid, but they keep finding evidence of larger and larger ones. I wish we could discover a mostly complete fossil of something like Maraapunisaurus or Argentinosaurus.

Also, it makes me happy that this thread has repeatedly pointed out that various creatures aren't dinosaurs – too often the word ends up as a catch-all for all big extinct things.
