Lost count now of the number of threads giving advice to others on how to cope after losing love. ( not talking death here - just the end of relationships )

Most of the advice I see given seems to describe how to become independent and like 'the self'.

Most of the love I see described is neediness.....

So .... Im asking.....

1. What is love ( and dont dare bloody say - It's different for different people ) DEFINE IT!

2. Why do people STILL in this enlightened day and age think that things have to be forever ?

ive never thought anything was forever, just for that particular chapter in your life, whether it be a relationship or other things in your life. When there over you deal with them. Close the chapter and carry on with the next. Thats how ive always dealt with everything in my life. Theres been times when ive been very sad that a chapter has closed and sometimes very relieved. Im coming to terms with the fact that i am with the person i will always be with until one of us dies.

What is love, i dont think it is describable, from what i read on here and people talk about love is usually completely different to how i describe love. I for one cant believe you can love someone having only known them a short time although others will swear by love at first sight.

There are so many different kinds of love, the love you have for your child is instantanious, the love for your parents is how your nurtured. The love for a partner grows out of fondness.

This is good. Thanks. I agree about 'love at first sight' it's not possible. That's lust and want. People do confuse the two ... chemical attraction is lust not love.

Never been asked to describe what my take on Love is, and to be honest not to sure how to answer.

I suppose for me it's a feeling of knowing that you are wanted and that the person you Love feels the same,knowing that the person is there unconditionally.

Jeez this is hard !!! I loved my ex no holds barred thru the good times thru the bad times,

in happiness in sadness,wanting to give her everything I had and more.

I don't really think you can describe Love it just IS and it is different in allit's forms.

Love for Mum and Dad

Love for your kids

gonna go away now and have a minutes contemplation lol

I don't think you need to behave in a certain way as such but it is the day to day actions that you do without knowing you do them so to speak that matter. Still don't make sense do I

Love is a bit like a drug .. You need that fix everyday to feel alive , And when its gone its like your dead inside for a time ... untill your ready to let it into your life again and learn you can maybe love more then one person and trust them with your heart and it starts over again .. its a feeling that makes you glow inside .

For the purpose of the thread this is my idea of love for a partner - understanding at all times of their thoughts and feelings yet not consciously it just happens . When not together , the butterflies feeling in the tummy when you think about them . The automatic elation you feel when you havnt seen them for a day and the hug when you do ! Obvious physical things like a hard on and flush as you touch their skin and kiss and of course the desire and lust that doesn't diminish even after two an a half years together . Just knowing that whatever happens you just wanna be with that person for the rest if your life because it just keeps getting better !

Well that's a start anyway !

Love starts as a strong desire to be back with that person for some more lust.

Love IS when you are comfortable in the silence, horny in the lust, and desire to touch kiss and hold your partner when you are apart.

love is working at something and not just throwing it away.... love is communication and talking about things that may crop up.. love is not stumbling at the first hurdle you want it to work so doing what you can to make it work... I have come to see that you may be in love but it turns out it was just lust...

falling asleep on their chest and not having the shame factor when u wake up to find you've drooled on them

if the ice cream falls off ya cone, they let ya lick theirs

When you can't get your loved one out of your mind and when daft things remind you of your loved one.

Just looking at your loved one should make you smile.

Being best mates as well as soul mates.

Knowing whatever situation/problem you have, the loved one will support you.

to me love is putting the other person and their needs and happiness before your own .not because you have to but because you want to . also its not that you cant be with out that person in your life ,but rather youd perfer not to be . most importantly i think its accepting that person fully for exactly who they are faults and all .not changing them into something else you want ,but also knowing when its time to tell some home truths .hope this makes sense !

um... I don't know if I know. I've had crushes on people that have disappeared overnight (the crush, not the person...although that's happened too

)

I think I have only been in 'Love' once, oe what I percieved to be love... and it was something like this..

We were together 12 years. I never felt jealous or insecure with him. I thought he was sooo beautiful, I could just watch him across the room and it would hurt inside, overwhelming

If I made him laugh it made my day. I always got really giddy near the end of the work day because he was collecting me. If I was shopping I would buy stuff for him before me. If he was upset about anything I couldn't bear it. I just really wanted him to be happy..

Looking back, I think how I felt was probably a bit unhealthy

I sort of lost myself in it all, and started to need his approval and stuff way too much.

So, I dunno...was that Love? whatever it was I'd never felt like it before, and if I'm honest, I don't want to be feel lke that again! lol! It's too exhausting.

but it was horrible when we split up. I'm still not sure how the hell I got through that.

I have this friend, he falls in love quite often

and when/if it all goes tits up, he always amazes me because he never gets bitter, he genuinely wants to see them be happy even when he's not a part of it anymore... I think that's probably real love. Totally unselfish.

the greatest writers past and present,could not adequately define nor agree on what love is.

so it's a big ask,on a swingers forum,to ask for an adequate definition.on which everyone agrees.

also no matter how enlightened,the day and age.if your in love,being together forever,is not only a thought,it's your deepest desire.

so it's a big ask,on a swingers forum,to ask for an adequate definition.on which everyone agrees.

also no matter how enlightened,the day and age.if your in love,being together forever,is not only a thought,it's your deepest desire."

No one asked for agreement on the definition.

It's not a big ask for a swingers forum - you don't have to be a writer to feel love.

Writers are just that. Writers. Lovers are well .. lovers.

Just cos someone writes doesn't make them right.

i agree you dont have to be a writer to feel love,but using words to describe a situation or emotion,is their art.

so i would expect writers to be more adept,putting into words,what love is.
