Because I get the feeling most of what people say on here is a load of rubbish, saying I'm this and I'm that doesn't make it so. By telling everyone how wonderful you are it seems to me like your pimping yourself out or at least auditioning for some second rate talent show

I was more thinking the woe is me i have broke/damaged/lost XXX. The above threads are an icebreaker for some and easy for those with less to contribute but although they dont really appeal there are worse. I do smile though when you see someone rush to put another up one one has hit its limit.

I like to self depreciate for a number of reasons.

If you can't take the pee out of yourself then I think it reveals a slight insecurity.

I am comfortable and confident in my own skin so don't see the need to boast.

I like to have banter with people and I think that being self depreciating is a signal that says you can have a laugh with me and my tiny, lifeless penis, I won't get offended.

Besides, just because someone boasts about themselves doesn't mean it's true.

I was going to say there are levels of humility that can be mistaken for self depreciation but humility is a virtue.

The type of self depreciation I don't like is where people go on n on about a negative aspect of themselves so that everyone will say ......awwwww but you are beautiful.

Which as nice people we do but then they won't take the boost n find sommat else crap to say ....it's almost self perpetuating.

Sometimes im inclined to say ......Yeah you are ugly .... only prob with that is that it's misread as being mean or negative.....

I have different thoughts on this

There are those that will be negative about themselves at every opportunity just to lap up compliments.

There is a post running where someone has a genuine problem and i dont for one minute think they are seeking compliments just advice.

There is others that just take the piss out of themselves.

Im a realist, i know im not perfect, i never will be. Since loosing weight i do take the piss out of myself more, usually about my now lack of tits, but thats mainly me adjusting to my new body shape. Iknow my tits are saggy i dont need someone to lie and tell me there not. All i can say is hallaluja to good underwear

I think there may well be people who self depreciate in order to fish for compliments - I'm not one of them. I don't have a face pic on my public gallery so it would be a futile exercise.

I genuinely think I'm not in the 'beautiful' bracket but that's by MY standards. I know that beauty is a subjective thing and someone else may find me attractive by THEIR standards.

I guess I've learned over the years that I am what I am and people are free to accept or reject me as they see fit.

To some its self deprecating; others could be expressing what they believe is an honest assessment of themselves.

The former may do it for reasons of insecurity, attention grabbing, seeking validation from others. The latter simply because they are grounded and self-aware. Its all subjective and the only person that really knows is the one who makes the comment.

I don't self-deprecate for one simple reason - In life there are plenty of people willing to deprecate you for free. Being honest with yourself about who you are is like a suit of armour against them.

I have very low self asteem and I don't take compliments well as I always think I'm being patronised but that's me and that's my problem, I do get the feeling most people on here are compliment seeking , one guy posted pictures of his wife asking if people thought she was alright but he must have known she was stunning, that's just ego boosting shit , prob just for him.

I don't like being complimented much, I shy away and hide. I don't even like complimenting myself. I keep telling myself that I am average at everything... Mostly because if I start thinking that I am good I'll end up pig-headded and arrogant.
