It's 4.20am and I can't sleep. My mind is wondering a little and I started to think of a comment my daughter made.

She said she'd popped in and no one was at home, within minutes she felt like someone was watching her from the top of the stairs. She didn't stay long.

This is the second time she has felt this way. Both times no one else was there.

So my question is do you believe in ghost's, spirit's? Have you ever seen one or felt a presence?

Or do you think it's nonsense and our imagination is just working overtime?

Usually think its daft but...

My 4 year old told my dad yesterday that nanny died here. Right in the spot where my mum died last year when she was 2.

Really freaked me out.

Historically most of the creepy feelings that we get in the older houses can be traced back to more explainable phenomenon. Like if you have a certain spot in your house that makes the hair on the back of your neck tingle, chances are that there is exposed wiring hidden nearby that creates a polarizing field that holds an electro magnetic charge.

The feeling of being watched is far less common than it would seem though. As a throwback from man's early evolution when we were not the top of the food chain it would alert us when a predator is watching and chances are that even today, when someone is staring at you intently you will notice it.

The other theory is that girls of a certain age start to unconsciously manipulate the world around them in a way that we don't yet understand. In most cases of supposed poltergeist activity, the main focus has been on or around young females (though woman experiencing hormonal changes). So while the house may not actually be haunted by the ghosts of the dead, your daughter may experience paranormal phenomena, especially if she equates the strange happenings to a ghost in the house. The more she is aware of it, the more it will happen.

Well that's my thoughts on it from a sceptic that wants to believe. Oh on a side note, if you hear pigs grunting coming from inside your walls then it might be more serious than just moving.

Or your house IS straight up haunted. good luck

Some top leading scientists are starting to believe that the universe has consiousness that expressed through our thoughts.

When we die our energy/consiousness maybe returned to the universe. Is experiencing paranormal activity just our consiousness connecting with the energy of the universe?

I believe there is something beyond what we see and I believe this for good reasons..lots of experiences the strongest coming from living amidst nature..no people around..living in my woods gave me a lot of new insights when nature is your only company..humankind does have a tendency for cancelling anything out that can't be explained because many believe we are the number one creature and only we can find the answers..are we really? In my opinion, for which I shall be scoffed at, there are way too many things that have been seen , experienced or exist that cannot be explained. Many years ago a local African tribal chief took an expert into a cave to show him some ancient wall markings. After a pile of research into their knowledge of the night skyou it turned out these paintings were a detailed map of the night sky including somethings that NASA only recently discovered..how? OK so that's not ghosts and spirits but what I am saying is that absence of evidence is not evidence of absence

Yes, with you on this..it's a known fact our brain only uses a small part of its capability so what about the rest..I believe we have conscious use of only 10 per cent of our brain, according to science, I astral fairly regularly and fly in my sleep..there is so much we don't and may never know about our place in this universe and this maybe a good thing

Under the Duvet

Two incidents-

First one viewing round an old house, the estate agent guy said I'll let you look upstairs on your own. The feeling up there was horrendous, I wouldn't say it was evil but it was definitely very oppressive and threatening. I was back down the stairs in seconds.

The estate agent gave me a knowing look but didn't say anything. In retrospect I really wish I'd asked him why hed not come upstairs, but I didnt want to sound daft.Needless to say I didn't put an offer in on that one. And it's one of those houses that came up for sale a lot.

Second time walking the Roman walls in Chester, bright sunny day. Thought there was someone coming up right behind me, so moved to the side to let them pass, looked round and no one there. Thought oh well and continued strolling along. 10 minutes later, same feeling that there was someone right behind me, again no one there. I got off the wall after that!

Probably both incidents can be explained away rationally, but I know what I felt at the time.

I believe that it's possible to experience things, I've seen and heard a lot of stuff. I don't believe it's dead people, ghosts or spirits as they're commonly understood though.

I've been to a fair few spiritualist meetings to see what they're about. Nothing I experienced at them led me to think that dead people can communicate with living ones.

My best friend in School went to a Spiritualist Church and had a message from someone.

It unsettled her so much she never went back.

I sometimes feel the side of my bed go down like someone is sitting on it. When my grampy died and we went to see him in his coffin there was an air freshner smell that was in the funeral home and for months afterwards when inwas walking through town i’d get an occassional whiff of that exact smell.

Also when my grampy died i had a dream in which he came to see me and say goodbye.

And when my old childhood dog died i had a dream of her running full pelt towards my uncle (who passed away when i was 9).

Also, when i split up with my first serious fella back in 2001 i could smell old lady lavender perfume in our then house. It was very strong. It would be whenever i was having a cry and it was a comforting smell. That went on for many, many months. Didn’t smell it all the time, just when i was upset (I went on to have depression so...).

Not saying it was anything spooky, but whatever it was, it was a comfort. I like to think there is a place where our loved ones are waiting for us in spirit.

I signed up for a tour of a Port house in Porto few years back,

While waiting on the tour to start few of us rambled across the street to this old stately home, with massive gardens all in disrepair, 3/4 ways round the house I got this horrible feeling that something or things were inside, felt heavy in my steps, all my body hairs were standing, serious doze of the Willie's, I didn't look at the house again as I had this feeling I was gonna see something disturbing and I just left, waited at the gate, my mates GF came out next saying there something not right about that place, the others felt nothing, so asked the tour guide back in the port house and all he said Locals never go there, and we don't talk about that house,,

Never experienced anything like before or since.

I would say again that there are things we just can't explain away as nothing. I think you are one of those people who are sensitive to changes around you. you pick up on them acknowledge them and gain comfort from them.

I wish I was like that as I have lost loved ones and would love to feel them around me in that way.

"I signed up for a tour of a Port house in Porto few years back,

Strange isn't it. And that out of all the people only 2 of you were receptive to it. I had a feeling there may have been a 3rd but he said nothing, but his face when we left told a different story,

yes..some people just don't want to say as they think it makes them look a certain way. or they don't want to accept it, whatever it is."

yes true,

Never bothered me what the others though, I felt what I felt simple as,

"I live alone and I have never smoked, no one is allowed to smoke in my house and yet twice in the past month I have come downstairs in the morning and noticed that the kitchen and dining room reeked of tobacco smoke.

Can't get my head round that one.

That's weird. Have you lost anyone close who was a smoker?"

My late father was a heavy smoker but he died in 1970, 4 years before the house was built, both of my neighbours live in smoke free houses.

"I believe there is something beyond what we see and I believe this for good reasons..lots of experiences the strongest coming from living amidst nature..no people around..living in my woods gave me a lot of new insights when nature is your only company..humankind does have a tendency for cancelling anything out that can't be explained because many believe we are the number one creature and only we can find the answers..are we really? In my opinion, for which I shall be scoffed at, there are way too many things that have been seen , experienced or exist that cannot be explained. Many years ago a local African tribal chief took an expert into a cave to show him some ancient wall markings. After a pile of research into their knowledge of the night skyou it turned out these paintings were a detailed map of the night sky including somethings that NASA only recently discovered..how? OK so that's not ghosts and spirits but what I am saying is that absence of evidence is not evidence of absence "

"It's 4.20am and I can't sleep.

Or do you think it's nonsense and our imagination is just working overtime?"

Hi Annabelle

I have experienced several things, once when in an old cotton mill on my own I heard a woman sigh.

Once at my sister in laws in the bathroom I had a pee, as I was peeing all the taps in the bathroom came on full.

Once on route home on a Saturday afternoon pouring with rain, we all saw a little boy dressed in 1960’s school clothes and a cap (long shorts)..

Lastly I saw a man in a pub who normally was with his wife (he had a walking frame)

Thought it strange, he lifted his glass to me to say hello.. later that day I found he had died a few days before (Xmas it was 1st week of Jan 1999)

All above are true

Now that you've had a few experiences do you feel calm if they happen or does it freak you out.

I wouldn't like the doors being held shut..that would freak me out I reckon, old house or not.
