There was a documentary about the plastics collected and supposedly recycled.

However, images of plastics being sent to Indonesia and being burned.

Anyone see this documentary?

I clean plastic containers and put them into the recycling bin nut not sure if i should throw it away in landfill

It's better that some is recycled than none but what happens to it is something that needs to be investigated

Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound

It is an issue and one we don't deal with well. Recycling is a borough by borough responsibility, which is nonsense. We have so many recycling systems in this country and very little is integrated.

Some is recycled. Some is shipped off, usually to the East, and we pollute them with our disposable life.

Still wash your plastic. Whole containers are contaminated by some of the collection being dirty, usually food waste. All of that is sent to be burnt. It's not enough to JUST put your plastic in the recycling bin.

I find this subject thoroughly depressing Sadness and a feeling helplessness when it comes to our once beautiful planet.

There was a colony of birds on a cliff top and you could see the plastics they'd picked up to nest with amongst all the natural materials from a distance. The birds were getting caught up and dying horrible deaths. That's just one example. I recycle and try to buy the least plastic packaging as possible. I suppose every little helps but it's just not enough.

We have got used to the convenience and plastic does have its uses.

I have tried to reduce my consumption by using things like shampoo bars but I still buy crisps and use toothpaste (rather than powders in tins or the powder blocks).

There's a trial of individual ketchup sachets made from algae in London. We'll see.

Bedworth

You’d be shocked at how much can actually be recycled. Our kerbside recycling is just the tip of the iceberg. Local councils only collect items which are easy and cheap to get recycled, if you want to really make a difference then there are people collecting and sending to places like terra cycle.

We’ve started saving pet food pouches, crisp packets and the outer wrappers and end caps of our cat’s insulin syringes. We drop them off at a site run by a local family who have collected over 1.5 tonnes of plastic this year and sent it for recycling.

We should all make an effort to reduce our plastic use, reuse it where we can and also recycle as much as we can too. If everyone just makes a tiny change to their plastic use and recycling habits it will add up to a huge global difference
