"My sister lost 5 stone and she just cut down on portion sizes didn't but snacks so nothing in-between meals apart from fruit and did more exercise. If she felt hungry she went for a walk and 10 months later 5 stone lighter and even better she has kept it off." Wow...impressive. well done to her.

"Man half of the couple here. Has anyone tried to lose a reasonable amount of weight and succeeded? I’m interested in what made it work. I’ve wanted to lose weight most of my adult life and had a few successes in the past, but nothing that has really stuck. I wonder if the people who have had success have also had a lot of false starts, if so, what changed to make it work this time? I know what I need to do; I drink too much and eat too much... how do you install good habits over bad ones?" Food is ultimately what it comes down to. I highly recommend going to see a nutritionist to guide you with your eating. I did a few years ago and it has made a significant difference.

Diagnosed type 2 diabetes and found to have a heart ryhthm issue, both of which would be helped some by weight loss. Shed 5-6 stones in about 6-8 months. Type 2 is now gone (it can be done) and a small amount of medication manages the heart - after initial cardioversion to straighten it out.

"Thanks all, I’m already feeling a bit of motivation just from reading your posts. I still feel I need to understand what made it work “this time” I probably started a diet every Monday morning for 20 years A friend of mine lost a lot of weight and when I asked him he said “you just have to want it enough”... that’s the problem; I do want it, but I also want a bottle of Malbec and a Chinese..." Download a food tracker app so you can track what you’re eating, it’ll surprise you

" Fear worked for me. Diagnosed type 2 diabetes and found to have a heart ryhthm issue, both of which would be helped some by weight loss.." It hasn’t worked for me. I got to 40 with absolutely no health problems, I haven’t even needed a filling yet. But I have recently found out I have high blood pressure. I started swimming, but I can’t seem to stop my bad food and booze choices.

Then it's not enough yet lol! I lost a lot of weight a few years after my divorce, but only when I found my strength and just totally committed to it, I used a low carb approach.

I do think the booze is key - I'd binned that about 9 months prior, and a clear head helps make, and stick to, sensible choices.

I’m not an alcoholic, but I really do love drinking. I’ve taken the odd month off the booze but never really coupled that with sensible food choices and exercise.

Not rockstar levels, but a bottle of scotch didn't last two weekday evenings, even with 6-8 cans of Strongbow and at least half a bottle of red per evening to pad it out. I'd wanted an excuse to stop rather than a reason, (which is obvious - it's just really bad for you) then my wife got v.ill and had to stop her alcohol intake, along with some other changes, so I stopped too. On the face of it, I'm an intelligent and logical bloke, but still as prone as anyone to do this stupid crap.

"Download a food tracker app so you can track what you’re eating, it’ll surprise you " I tracked calories in a spreadsheet. It really helped me focus on my goal of cutting back my food intake. When i saw every little bit take away from my goal it was easier to be a little hungry. I also drank a lot more water, and cut back on the alcohol.

Cutdown gradually dont try and cut out all the bad habits at once or you will just crave them. Eat little but often say for example you have 3 meals a day split that into 6 small meals. Eat plenty of rich in fibre foods drink plenty of water. And excercise regular even even if you have a busy schdule break the excercise down uring the day 10 mins here n there Male half here

"Smaller plates help. Walking. Try boiled potato instead of chips. Don't weigh yourself. You will lose easily at the start then it will stop or slow down. You get pissed off then eat. " Good tip!
