Gym goers: what are your goals?

Manchester (she/her)

Some people have incredible bodies, some want incredible bodies. For others it's not about looks. If you're a gym goer, what drives you?

I want to avoid pain and weakness, in general and from past injuries. I want to be healthy, physically and mentally. I enjoy the challenge. My firm goals are all about that. Looks don't come into it for me.

Oo err Devon

I have many reasons...

I had a really rubbish year last year and the excercise has been a great way of keeping my mental health in good shape! Always feel more positive after a gym sesh!

I wanted to loose some weight that I put on... I at my way through troubles.. silly me!

I enjoy being fit enough to do fun things like climbing, snowboarding etc..

I go to a social gym... All PT small group sessions and it's great fun and a great social!

And I love pizza and cider...

I go to the gym because I want to look good and to have that 6pack plus all the benefits that comes with it and I like the fitness life style in general. I am currently on a slow bulk

I just feel so much better since I started lifting weights. I don't get back pain anymore and my posture is so much better.

I'm currently working on addressing an imbalance in the strength and flexibility between my legs due to a past injury. I tore a muscle in my inner thigh years ago which is now less flexible as a result. It end up pulling my knee in on some leg excercises which affects my form.

I'm also concentrating more on my upper body strength which I admit is shocking .

All about the numbers.

Won British title in May and qualified for European and world finals.

Didn't compete at the as I'd already done 2 comps on the bounce, Europe's 7 weeks after brits just wasn't doable.

Next year I'm doing brits and Europe's, year after worlds.

Part is to counterbalance my love of food, part is for my mental health. None of it is to look good.

I have a couple of fitness related goals for next year. Complete 3 laps of a 12k obstacle course and to compete in an Ultra.

A few really, I don't want to end up with a Homer Simpson physique as I age, I like how I look with some muscle on me, and as I'm a reservist keeping fit and able to do the job at short notice is a must.

I want to be healthier and stronger. I feel better about myself when I go and it also helps clear my mind. Size/shape is just a byproduct and not my main focus (although I'd love to have a properly defined arse!)

I want to be the man I dream of in my dreams

The 2nd part of that sentence wasn't necessary but I added it because I don't give a slightest shit

Train hard and fight easy. That used to be my motivation.

Now I go because it’s just part of my daily routine

I get a buzz from the endorphins released when I exercise combined with the challenge of seeing what I can push my body to do - to know truly what my physical limits are and not what my head tells me they are. Oh, and I love having a pert bum and toned abs - nice bonus

I've been really slack at the gym lately as I'm not really motivated to go it was usually to keep myself fit and strong for rugby but between the 2 I needed to give one a break and the gym has took the hit

Yep. Same, legs are fine. My quads are the strongest part of my body due to years of running and squats. I only started the upper body stuff recently and by god it hurts! Delayed onset muscle soreness... aka might as well have been run over by a bus yesterday

Training mostly for strength at the minute. I started out wanting to be a bit more trim, but once I got into it decided to monitor my calories, have a slight surplus and gain some muscle. I’ll start cutting in spring ready for the summer

Tell me about it! I quite like the soreness in my thighs and bum. When it hurts really bad to lift your arms though you can hardly do anything!
