As the daughter of a hoarder I know first hand how your stuff can take over your life.

I'm currently clearing crap from my own place as I'm moving house soon. The chazza shops are doing well out of me, which is good, and the declutter is going in the right direction, but jesus how did I accumulate so much shite?!

Anyone else out there feeling my pain?

Urgh!

I’m a hoarder. My mum had to stage an intervention when I had my own place. I had a 3 bedroom house and one bedroom you couldn’t get in because it was rammed from floor to knee with clothes.

This was during a depressed period and I just found it overwhelming to deal with. She came in and helped me clear it and I never let it get that bad again.

I still hoard but I also sell stuff on EBay to get rid of the overflow, if that makes sense?

I hoard but I do have a clear out every so often. Then the charity shops and eBay are useful to get rid of things. The one thing I’m struggling with is my dressing table, it’s really too big and not needed in my bedroom but it was my grandmothers and so many memories attached to it. X

Somewhere In The Ether…

I blame shows such as Cash In The Attic for creating a nation of hoarders; Thanks to that programme alone, half the country now have bowing ceilings..

In my happy place

Not me... Ive stopped buying stuff i dont need.

Feel better for it. Only got a small stash of toiletries.

Have sold good quality clotges n bags to a dress agency.

If i buy anything, something has to go to charity.

Glad to hear I'm not alone!

My mum was horrendous, garage full of crap, rooms she couldn't use. I'm not quite that bad but I'm trying to set a better example for my kid.

So today I've filled 6 binbags with random tat and binned, and also taken two bags to the charity shop with another to go,so well done me.

I was feeling positive, but I look around now and it seems like I've barely made a dent in it. Loads of books to go next and CDs.

Wish me luck!

North Bucks

Aside from clothes and shoes in which I have a ridiculous amount I try to be a minimalist. I like clean uncluttered lines (unless it’s a bookcase)

I love a good declutter very therapeutic. I send it all up the road to the local Emaueas community.

Hiding in the shadows

Guilty as charged.

I had a huge clear out recently

Dozens of bags off to the charity shops, and filled a 10yrd skip with other junk.

It was painful, very painful.

But also quite liberating.

Some of the junk, I've had for over 30yrs & completely unnessescary in my life anymore

Well done you. I've been quite ruthless this week, but yes getting rid of stuff you have an emotional attachment to (stuff of my mums) is hard.

Onwards and upwards.

I have clearing everything out moments where I bin stuff that I haven't worn or used for a long time.

But there are certain things I just cant throw away like clothes that have barely been worn but no longer fit because I'm the size of a house now

I had 6 huge packing boxes

All full of my old college, uni work.

I've moved house at least 7 times since I finished uni, and some of the older college stuff from my teens, is completely out of date & useless

I still have no idea why I'd kept hold of it all

Walking down the only road I've ever known!

I'm loathed to get rid of stuff and I always say I'll keep that it may come in handy again one day.

You’ll never know when you may need it , best move it from “A” to place “B”

I've thrown away string, random plasters, a rusty knife sharpener and bent spoons today.

I'm betting I'll need all of them in the next few days

I do have a tendency to hoard but fortunately eBay and charity shops stop it getting out of hand.

Though there isn't much space in the conservatory

Family trait, my dad is in his 70s and still has stuff from when he was at college
