So looks like Harry and Meghan won't be at Sandringham for the 'traditional ' family Christmas..thoughts and opinions? I think it would be nice, if only for the age of his grandparents. We personally spend Christmas with one family one year and the other the next year

It's their first Christmas with their child so I can understand them wanting to spend it at home.

"It's their first Christmas with their child so I can understand them wanting to spend it at home."

I think they are going to her Mum's for thanksgiving and staying there for Christmas. But yes, I would understand if they wanted to be in their own home with their little boy

It is the Royal tradition, but if Harry chooses not to be there, that's fine. Not saying it was Meghans decision, but she has chosen to join the Royal Family and so there are certain things she may have to do that she may not like it agree with.

I agree, but there is talk of them going to America to be with her Mum. Perhaps the Queen could invite her to Sandringham

It's their own business and they can do whatever suits them. I'm not sure why they warrant a conversation.

The royal family is a completely outdated institution whose only real useful function is being a tourist attraction.

I don't see any more reason to talk about their Christmas plans that those of Mr and Mrs Wiggins of Skegness.

Bah humbug.

Not that it affects me in anyway what they decide to do but if it was me? - yes I'd probably want to spend my son's first Christmas with my own family & not be surrounded by a load of traditionalists boring me to bits with pomp.

I'm sure a lot of people do...I'm not looking forward to it this year. It was a thread to generate a conversation in those that take an interest in the Royals. Harry and Meghan have had a lot of publicity, some brought on by themselves, but they're damned if they do and damned if they dont

I wonder if they will settle in America eventually ?

She might want to revive her acting. I don't know if it's true but they say it never leaves you. Look at Louise Redknapp making a comeback. Harry could take up acting lessons. There is always a role in Hollywood for a well spoken English Gentleman, James Bond, Butlers, James Steed, etc

I think they might eventually disengage themselves from the Royal Family. They seem to like Africa, especially Harry and his involvement in Lesotho, where he's helped found a charity for orphans, but they have to make a choice as he will lose some of his allowance

It's perhaps a scenario the Papers build up almost to taking over the Royal's lives and kind of dictating how the respective families within the Monarchy should behave, as opposed to reality plus how ordinary people would interact.

Shame! If only the Press would give them some space! But that doesn't SELL newspapers!

"She wears the trousers in that household, its going to end in tears

I'm amazed how many people know the Royals personally. They must spend a lot of time with them to know how they all act and think. "

It is no wonder the royals get a bit upset at times, all these personal friends who know them so well gossiping about them all the time

I was thinking more on a personal level, as his grandparents are very old now. We are seeing a change with the young Royals, breaking from tradition, not saying it's a bad thing

For years William was called Billy Middleton because he spent Christmas with the Middleton's. The negative press Meghan gets, little wonder she wants to be with her mum.

Bless her, she must be the only person surprised at the venom and vitriol directed towards her...don't know anyone black who didn't see it coming.

We all have hope. Maybe she thought that her television fame would protect her?

I do wonder if she's also had a little PND. The vitriol will have hurt so much more if she has been feeling vulnerable. And it keeps coming.

If I’m honest, I think they’re all pretty bad in terms of pushing an agenda, as I really don’t trust the folk who own them.

Even The Independent isn’t independent.

I really don’t know where to go for news these days. It feels like they’re all trying to manipulate us for their own means.

I didn't mean you said it. It was a general comment because many other people are saying it.

If she is expected to follow traditions they wouldn't be allowed to do anything against that. Like have Christmas elsewhere.

To the question, she has a family too ( her mum anyway ) who she may want to spend Christmas with. I am sure there are families up and down the land who have relatives who they share spending Christmas with. It isn't uncommon for most of us, traditions or not

There is always a reason they do it.

In Meghan and Harry's case I think it is because they court publicity when needed/ wanted then complain anything that criticises them. I obviously don't know all of the articles that have been published but the recent ones were telling the truth ie about the private planes etc.

Yes this is true. I suppose my thinking behind my thread is that they probably want more of a normal life. He is part of the Royal family and is paid for that, allowances etc , yes private planes, security and more. They are quite entitled to step back from that and thus should lose all of those benefits. Also he does a lot of charity work, which I commend him for. Them aside, there are lots of minor Royals that we don't need and I think the Royal Family should be steamlined. "So looks like Harry and Meghan won't be at Sandringham for the 'traditional ' family Christmas..thoughts and opinions? I think it would be nice, if only for the age of his grandparents. We personally spend Christmas with one family one year and the other the next year

"

Am sure all those boys and young men who picked up weapons and went to war to fight for his granny and ended up homeless wont be too bothered or upset about where Harry eats his christmas dinner.

Well Prince Charles is next. I personally think William and Kate will make a good King and Queen "

She can't become a queen.

Maybe the queen wants to play monopoly and trivial pursuit, that's a good enough reason not to go.

People are always suggesting that Charles isn't Harry's real dad because he has ginger hair.

Comments like this make me . Having a royal family hasn’t created poverty and getting rid of them wouldn’t remove it ... not even remotely relatable topics

Probably sick of the royal court leaking endless hate to the racist media on a daily basis. I can't imagine two geriatric autocrats are nice to be around at the best of times either

I am not convinced that there is anything racist in the Press coverage. Some of the coverage is OTT but I don't believe it's driven by racism

Let's not forget their charity work. William and Harry were taken as young children, to visit night shelters. Harry helped to set up a charity for orphaned children in Lesotho and has continued to visit for the last 10 years. He continues to support his fellow servicemen. Oh yes, he served in Afghanistan and yes I know lots of others have. William has helped to save lives, when he was with the air ambulance, his salary was given to charity. There are other hard working Royals, particularly Princess Anne.
