Nope, nothing.

Oh, a boy sent me a postcard when I was in top infants that said "I have everything I need in the caravan except you". Waited 44 years for that to be beaten. Still waiting.....

"And I'm not talking about a rose poking out of your bum. "

A ex gf made me a wee illustrated book with all the reasons why she loves me with wee pictures (cartoon etc etc) titled with our names on it. Not necessarily romantic but damm I’ve still got that book 6/7 years later. As the they say, the one that got away

Somewhere In The Ether…

Sometimes it’s the little gestures which resonate and touch us the most.

A lady once wrote me the most beautifully worded card from her heart which really struck a chord so to speak

I find romantic gestures uncomfortable and uneasy

I think it was because my ex used to put on a show of making grand gestures in public, to my family etc, yet behind closed doors the story ended.

My ex proposed to me by “finding” something in the sea when we were on holiday in Kefalonia. He called me over to show me what he’d found - only for me to splash/swim away shrieking thinking it was a crab.

After he’d calmed me down i swam over, he opened his hand and there was a diamond ring.

Which i thought someone had lost

I think he called me a dozy cow at that point...said he was trying to propose and slipped it on my finger.

I thought it all very romantic afterwards

Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound

Slow dancing at a restaurant/bar in Belfast after dinner. It was totally spontaneous, very tender and we didn't care that we were the only ones dancing.

My longest Fab friend trying to get a group of men together as a birthday present. It was thoughtful, kind and sexy.

I haven't had much romance in my life.

Somewhere

During a recent holiday trip I was treated to a couple of lovely romantic dinners in our room and a surprise noon tea with champagne. It couldn't have been a more perfect three days. Soon to be repeated.

I know a guy who went to America in search for a girl who he briefly met on a night out in London. He didn't know her, but felt crazy about her.

Somehow he managed to find where she lived and got a job in the same office where she worked and he eventually asked her out.

30 years later they're still very happily married and living in Wales now.

When we'd been together a couple of years my bf and I were having dinner somewhere and he said let's go for a drive in the country. I was expecting some alfresco debauchery but we found a bench under a huge oak tree and just sat in the moonlight talking and holding hands for ages. I've never forgotten it.

Being taken on a walk up a Welsh mountain on a winter's morning. Freezing cold, I wasn't really in the mood for it, then realising he'd gotten up early (before I was awake), trekked up the mountain and stomped our names in the snow on for all to see

The ex that proposed on the beach also used to make me sandwiches for work and put little love notes in there.

But at the same time, he’s the twat who joined a dating site when me and his baby were asleep upstairs!

.

A few days before Christmas I'd broken my ankle quite badly. Trains and flights were cancelled due to the bad weather, I couldn't drive because of aforementioned ankle and I was worried and sad I'd end up spending it alone.

I heard some really loud music outside and being the nosy gobshite I was, I looked outside to see what it was and it was my partner. He'd driven from Bearsden to Aberdeen and had filled the car with all my favourite snacks and done a very long playlist of all my favourite songs. He drove me (very slowly!) to Lancashire to be with my family, stopping on the way in a lovely hotel he'd booked and kept me smiling with his daft chat and good heart.

I don't think I'll ever forget his kindness and to this day whenever I hear *that* song I think of him and his love for me.

Unfortunatly it ment nothing to me as it eas the wrong person. Now with jay we have our own special bird hide where we cuddle up and watch the sun and birds on the water. walk along hand in hand while he recites poetry i get flowers once a fortnight. With the right person its all the little stuff they do

That has to be one of the most thoughtful things someone could ever do for someone else that really made my heart flutter. I'm so sorry about your dad it's in times like that you know who is really there for you

"And I'm not talking about a rose poking out of your bum. "

I haven't received many romantic gestures, though I like to give them.

An ex once hunted high and low to find a 1st edition of a book by my favourite author, on our first (paper) anniversary.

That was cute.

He sang to me.. in a whisperish tone after we made love. A song i will always carry with me. Even though its been over a decade ago. He wrote most beautiful letters too and we made love in meadows, lake and woods. My first love was truly romantic. Until it stopped to be.
