Somewhere In The Ether…

The best advice I can offer is to deter the pup with something else to chew (chew toys etc) - they’ll always find something to chew!

What sort of puppy have you got?

Pretty much give them something else to chew on we were puppy sitting at the weekend and we got it a chew toy within half an hour or jeans were left in peace

Don’t leave anything on the floor that you would like to keep in decent condition. We’ve had shoes, badminton racquet, socks, dog beds, carpets, tennis balls and Tupperware tubs all destroyed. They do get better though after a few years . Good luck.

Hence the penned area, as others have said, just have to get him to think the chews are more fun

Beast of luck though, been there, and will be again

You can actually buy a spray. It's deters chewing and toileting in areas you don't want that behavior

It's all been said! Puppy pen...toys, stimulation and training with positive rewards. These are formulative years and will reflect their behaviour later on!! What breed?

Love the bully breeds but they are some of the hardest to train out of habits. It’s just the stubborn bull mentallity but they become the best pets

Most have covered it.

It is a combination of bordem, teething, and just generally being a puppy/toddler.

For teething - get a teatowel, make sure it is wet (but not dripping. Tie a knot (or few) in it and put it in the freezer. Once it's frozen give it to them to chew on. It will help sooth their teeth and also give them something to explore and fill their bordem for a while. A good idea to have multiple on the go so you don't have to wait for them to freeze all the time.

Under the Duvet

Our Labrador chewed everything (and I mean everything, shoes, action men, potatoes out the veg rack, my orthodontic brace, the lounge door) until she was about three, and then she stopped.

She had big marrow bones, and chews and her own toys but that made no difference.

Good luck!

There are various sprays, paints that taste bloody awful and the puppy learns it's not a good idea to chew. Took mine, many years ago, about a day to work out chewing the skirting board was just not on. get them in most pet shops / online.

Agree with all of the above. I always get a crate or cage for our puppies with chews in it. I get the feeling that they chew when they’re tired. Oh I’d love a pic too

Please don’t shout at him/her or tell him off it’s a totally natural behaviour. Puppies are hard work and it’s tiring caring for them.

Anything of value, remove from the area he/she occupies. A penned off area can be helpful as can a crate (as long as it’s seen as a positive space and not punishment). Anytime they go to chew something they shouldn’t replace it with a toy or chew.

They’re kinda like toddlers, distraction is normally the best way to go.

NB seen a few replies suggesting you offer him one of hos own chews, don't. That tells him he's doing something you like because you are giving him a treat. Puppy needs to learn they shouldn't chew walls etc. No need to punish him either, but reward good behavior only.

I dunno, youre not supposed to get down on your hands and knees and fight them anymore. Think these days you have to just keep asking them nicely to stop.

Not to put on the dog. Sorry I should of been more clear lol.

When my dog chewed the wall I put Vics on the wall, the smell put her off and she stopped chewing.

Our boxer totally baffled me as a pup I’d never had one and became bloody frustrated as I didn’t know what to do but luckily my missus was there to show me all he wanted was to play. Miss that boy

I think most puppies go through this. It's usually down to teething and them learning what they can do with their mouths. I found water mixed with loads of lemon juice in a spray bottle really helped when my pup was going though this.

I'd remove anything that you don't want damaged and just accept that some things will be chewed at until your pup understands what no means.

If you're going out anywhere a crate can be a good safe space while they are growing with lots of good chew toys.

When my boy was a pup I came back one day and he had ripped all the wires from the wall and chewed through the floorboards.

A friends dog ran away from home and turned up in the local Tesco eating the carrots!
