Whats a good opening message contain?

I see alot of "dont say hi or ask how i am"

But then how else are you supposed to start a civilized conversation?

Pick on an aspect of their profile make a witty comment about it

It's different and shows you've read their profile and thought about the message

Usually that is all it say though... Surely if you want a decent conversation, you can think of more than that?

Just ignore the don’t say hi thing lol as I always start with hello or hi and how are things with you followed by a lot more it’s called being polite and having manners unlike a lot of people in the world x

If you say hi, then they say hi back, what would your next message be? Use that as the first one instead.

I enjoy an intriguing question, I feel the need to reply to.

The completely cold opening first messages I’ve responded to have (on reflection) all involved literature in some way.

Don't use the subject for the basis of your message and then put... In that message bit or start half a sentence in the subject then finish it in that message. It's just bad grammar also do what the profile requires you to do and read through it before hand

On a mooch

Most of my first messages I send off the back of a thread. Occasionally someone catches the eye outside the forums and I just comment on what I like

Same in reverse, some messages will catch my eye and intrigue me to reply but only after I’ve checked their profile.

Then just let the conversation flow

It’s not just the opening message. I hate when I feel as though I am interrogating someone just to keep the conversation going and I just get one sentence replies, or worse one word. I just give up.

Conversation is a two way street and I like people that are genuinely interested in other people.

This I've often had a message from someone I find interesting and eventually it goes to my paragraph of an answer to a couple of words as an answer from them.

However the best first message I've had was a cheeky insult, I had to reply. It didn't go much further as I wasn't attracted to that person, but I really admired the intelligence and wittiness of that message

Show you've read the profile and write a message that the recipient can tell is about them.

Don't call them recipient though they don't like that

Always try and go from something on their profile, doesn't always work as they might not have an interest it you.

But for the love of god don't try telling them you would 'destroy' or the likes...common sense tends to prevail.
