Any fitness experts on here want to help me with a training regime and some advice on meal plans. I’m keen to lose some weight and tone up.

Understand that this close to Christmas might me the best time to start but worth a go right?

Diet first, can't out train a bad diet.

Plenty of fruit and veg, lean meat, good fats, whole grains.

You don't look fat so I wouldn't bother with cardio.

Weights alone with a good diet should see you right.

Options for routines are endless, it's all about what works for you.

I'd choose full body 3-4 times a week to start but that's my opinion, others will come along with there opinion.

Manchester (she/her)

Everyone is different and will enjoy or adapt better to different things. Mr Monkey knows more than me about this, of course.

My diet is my downfall. 80% diet...20% exercise to lose weight. Its true.

There’s no massive changes needed..

Eat a bit less, eat a bit healthier..

Avoid food shooting late in the evening..

Find an exercise you enjoy, be it going for a walk before breakfast, trying to improve your Saturday morning Parkrun, swimming or lifting weights, pick something you’ll be happy doing a trying to fit in in 6 months time..

Throwing out your big plates is always a good start..

Lifestyle change made a difference for me. Decided to get the train to work instead of driving. Just a 10min walk this end and 20mins at the other 3 days a week.

... that and 20min sessions on the rowing machine when I can be arsed

By no means an expert but I've managed to lose 2 stone. I was mostly eating far too many carbs and therefore too many calories as it's so calorie dense and refined carbs arent as filling as you think.

I bulk out my dinners with vegetables and my lunches with fruit. I don't starve myself or you end up caving and eating stuff you shouldn't. I've mostly stopped eating bread too. I mostly eat porridge for breakfast, some form of protein rich food and fruit for lunch and my dinners are probably half veg, a third protein and then a small amount of carbs such as brown rice/sweet potato/pasta/ a tortilla wrap.

I've recently started tracking my calories on my fitness pal which has been really helpful as the last half a stone I want to lose is of course the hardest. It also calculates your nutrition and that's how I realised I wasn't eating anywhere near enough protein. I've felt a lot less sore after the gym since I've started hitting my target for it so it's really made a difference.

I make sure I have a treat meal a week as if you deprive yourself of anything too much you pack it all in. I try to have it the day before the gym too as the extra carbs seem to help my work out. When people at work have sweets and things I've allowed myself one or two and factored it into my calories so in a way nothing is really off bounds as long as it's in moderation.

Thanks all. Some great advice. I’ve downloaded the MyFitnessPal app and will log meals etc. I’ll get my butt in the gym too. Good to know that doing a more weights based routine should work maybe with a bit of cardio thrown in.

Do we think that 3 times a week is enough?

Be careful which foods you use on MFP as some of them are not correct. Check all labels first to make sure they match what's in MFP.

3 times is plenty

I try to use the barcode scanner option as much as possible. It's become a habit now to scan in each ingredient as I make dinner. It saves what you've logged before though which is handy if you use certain things often. Don't forget to record everything including butter, condiments, oil, etc.

Definitely very easy using the scanner. Makes it simple which is good.

Snacking has always been my downfall, we cook from scratch healthy meals and plenty of veggies but with us having kids (snack monsters) each time they snack we snack.

Instead of 3 meals per day we've switched to 4 healthy meals so we aren't tempted by sugary crap. Stops us from finishing our kids snacks and food when they can't finish a full one

Doing this we've finally got the energy to exercise when the kids go to bed rather than being exhausted from sugar crashes.

Plus we've started back on beachbody exercises, 21 day fix to get us into a reletivly decent shape to get back to p90x which got us into amazing shape for our wedding day.

It's a fantastic app. Problem for us is that for storage we decant stuff into jars for our cupboards and recycle the packages, we should really cut out the bar codes before we do lol
