When I was 14 I was torn between being a vet and oceanography, I luckily managed to find a career with a part of both professions which I have loved ever since.

Did you deviate from your childhood ideals or manage to progress in that profession?

Wanted to join the RAF to work with the Military Police dogs but failed entry due to my shit maths. Was gutted. Could have retaken but my maths wasn’t going to improve so no point. I then contemplated the Army but was talked out of it by my Grampy.

I think I'd be worried about my childhood if I had wanted to be what I so for either of my jobs as a kid . Funnily enough both are better than anything I wanted to do as a child. When I was 13, I wanted to be a famous singer! I'm totally tone deaf, and my lovely parents admit to this day that they didn't have the heart to tell me.

At 15 I went for an audition. I was told I sounded like a broken Bjork and not to bother....

So I turned my hand at more professional avenues, I'm now in management in a luxury industry. Almost famous, without as much money, but happy.

Now I’m an architectural Technician! But I do work for myself and I love it!

My brain shot to lady ice road truckers with that comment

That sounds fascinating

I do love the snow so that could have been good! I’ve always loved lorries for some reason! Drove one for my 21st, was awesome

It’s a very cool job doing what I do now. Meet lots of new people and builders ( ) all the time "

My parents wanted me to go to Uni, I didn't particularly know what I wanted so visited the RAF recruitment centre where after sitting an exam I was informed I was in but couldn't fly due to an eye issue. Then they said because what I wanted to do was a 4-5yr apprenticeship they wanted me to sign straight for 9yrs..

At 18 that seemed like well half a lifetime & I didn't bother. Still think about it sometimes..

I did eventually end up in a good job with a bit of world travel thrown in (Japan/USA a couple of times a year Mostly) & did that for 15yrs.

I've been working from home for about six years now & love it as it's flexible, hence i'm still working now but didn't come out here till about 6pm after having a social meet & then sorting kids dinner.

Fits with my insomnia too.

My dad wanted me to be a chartered surveyor, fuck knows why?

Did you deviate from your childhood ideals or manage to progress in that profession?"

At 15 I went for an audition. I was told I sounded like a broken Bjork and not to bother....

So I turned my hand at more professional avenues, I'm now in management in a luxury industry. Almost famous, without as much money, but happy.

That must have been very hard for you at 15

A happy success despite that though "

There and to the left a bit

All through school I was going to join the Royal Navy to the point that my school career advisor didn't even bother with me - went for the officer interview board and they suggested I might do better joining as a rating and working my way up - so joined at 17 almost 37 years ago to the day - sadly a combination of factors (teenage arrogance being the main one) saw me leave after a few months and before I had finished my training - probably the biggest mistake of my life

A rewarding job indeed I bet!!

I had a red and yellow Yamaha Fs50 when I was 16 and had the seat reupholstered in red faux leather hahaha. I did customise the tank but not with paint... I yacht varnished White Zombie artwork all over it decoupage style

Later on I had a Suzuki 250 but traded that in for a car eventually.
