When I went to high school, my art teacher adored me. My dad hated her as he knew her through the artsy world and she'd been vile towards him but he encouraged me to make my own decision about her. He didn't want his opinion to sway me. It's a lesson I've taken heed of my whole adult life.

Do you listen to what other people say about others, or do you make your own mind up?

If your friend dislikes someone, do you immediately dislike them though also through loyalty? Do you stand up to them and say, actually, they're OK?

Is it OK to dislike someone on the grounds that our friend thinks they're a twat, so therefore we do too?

Really interested to hear your thoughts on this, forumites!

I always make my own judgements, try to trust my intution. Never been one to take advice... and somewhat it makes me 'curiouser' about the person if they are seen as a bit of an outsider;-)

In a wax coated bubble

I make my own mind up and have pockets of friends that would never mix but they all share one thing in common and that's me.

It's ok to think whatever you like....

I try to judge ppl as I find them. If someone else goes out of their way to warn me off of another person then I'll have a look at their motivations for doing so, and it'll usually have the opposite effect....

I dislike someone for their behaviour, not because of somebody else’s opinion. I don’t dislike people as a rule, but facts don’t lie.

Many of my friends are friends with people I don’t like.

They know I don’t like them I know they do we leave it at that. Occasionally they ask why so I say. I take what people say with a pinch of salt. As many will try and sway your opinions if they have fallen out. People chat shit.

I always take people as I find them. Your nice to me I’m nice to you. Simple

I very much trust my instincts about people and I listen to others opinions but it doesn't sway mine. These instincts haven't let me down.

I would always make my own mind up unless someone has really wronged a friend then that a different story but I do have many friends who don't get on but that's their problem not mine

I take as I find.

I have two very close friends whose opinions I trust; if they really warned me off someone I would probably be a little more reserved but if I got to know them and thought they were great, having that warning wouldn't really change that.

If, however, you do something shit to those I love then I don't care how much anyone else likes you, you're still a gobshite.

Hefty Hideaway

In the main I make my own mind up but if someone I usually trust the judgement of has a bad view of another I tend to be wary too. Sometimes it turns out to be right and others not.

Ha, me too... I often find when someone tells me to be wary of another there's a hidden agenda.

I don't sway in prejudice based on others view, but do listen friends/others opinions, final decision will be mine, and I do ask the reason to my friends, that on what basis you have formed your opinion any why you think it's right... Not everything is black & white

People know that if I call someone a cunt, that I have reasons and they usually pay attention to it. Never been argued with over my reasoning either, but it is extremely rare that I do that.

Like maybe 4 or 5 a times a day. (Lol. I amuse myself too much.)

I always make up my own mind about people, i'm very perceptive and a good judge of character. I wouldn't ever let anyone else's opinion sway my judgement.

I make my own mind up about people. Actually how I met my greatest friend 7 years ago, friend said they were a twat, met them and then the rest is history...7 years and still going strong with the friendship.

Oh Scarlet. As direct and honest as ever.

There's a couple of people whose opinion I'd listen to - more in the case of if they had had bad experiences with them, I'd be slightly wary. I trust them and know they look out for me. On the whole I try and take people as I find them. I respond to how people react and act towards me, not what person x once said about person y.

I still can discuss someone with another but it doesn't sway my opinion about them.

I am always wary when people try to 'warn' me about others, in my head it says more about that person than the person they are chatting shit about.

Just stop it, not cool and you only make yourself look like a cunt chatting shit about others

There and to the left a bit

I mostly will form my own judgement of people and not be swayed by others, but often find that my judgement is matched by others I know well.

I've also formed an opinion of people that had changed with time after getting to know them better - some for the better some for the worse.
