Understand the person and you can figure out the meaning better. Some are cryptic on here.

Some people have a different persona in the forums to how they really are face to face

Bolton

It's quite difficult sometimes - especially when someone appears to be able to start an argument whilst on their own and feel that everyone else is wrong and they are the only 'right' person! They make me laugh! Z

".. maybe a ego thing not sure ."

definitely an ego thing I reckon. although it's sometimes too easy to come accross as pompous in writing when it's not intentional.

when you speak to people, the inflection in your voice shows the meaning behind your words more than any amount of typing/writing ever can.

Personally, I think it depends on what mood the person reading the subject is in and that's how they misread the thread/post

Smilies can help too

Sometimes its hard to understand what people mean, maybe its a dialect thing or the post is not written very well.

I'd like to think that my words are understood, I do try and make it as clear as possible but if its misinterpreted then there's little really I can do. What I wouldn't do though is make a statement and if challenged deny I meant to be sarcastic or offensive.

The icon thing, I put a smiley face on every post I write so its not really that indicative of what I'm trying to convey

I would never do that - I always use 100 words when 5 will suffice
