Same sex friendships on here...

How important are they to you?!?

Do you message people who you think are ‘your kinda people’!?! Just to say hello and say something nice?

A couple of ladies on here have really made me smile today and it really reiterated how important friendship is here...

This applies to both sexes but I imagine the women chat more than the men! Guys is it something you’d like more of or not?!?

So are you up for friendship? Does it matter or not?

Feel free to drop your experience here and say hello to someone you just like as a person!

I do message in an attempt to start a conversation - I've made some lovely friends through doing just that and talk to them daily, even if they're not using the site currently.

I do find it a bit awkward at times just saying hello, I think you're cool! People already form opinions of you before you've spoken and might think you're a right twat. I think that's my overthinking nature coming out though.

Manchester (he/him)

I rarely talk to guys on here but there are a few that I can and do have a natter with on occasion. Friendships are important and are something that I didn't expect from fab.

In general I prefer the company of women anyway, simply because the competitive aspect of most male friendships wear me out. There are a few guys that I value and respect though.

I’m a guys gal, always have been. I get on better with men (so long as i don’t fancy them else i turn shy) and chat to a a few men on Fab on a non sexual basis, fairly regularly . But i’m a solitary person and have only two close friends. I’m friendly (ish) but tend to keep folk at arms length.

I find it hard to make new friends (female or male) as i’m not very sociable as a rule, but have always found (in work settings etc) that women are quick to bitch and gossip. Men tend to be more upfront, and i prefer their matter of factness and as a hot head i like hearing things from a guys perspective.

So yes, guys rule for me in the friend department.

Not necessarily, I chat to guys I know from the club scene reasonably often.

Not really any different from friends I've made in pubs & on vanilla nights out.

Equally I've lady friends on here I've never played with & ladies I chat to "in the real world" who I have played with outside of the scene.

For me the most important thing is being social, anything else comes afterwards.

Have great nights in or out and just have a good laugh . We have become so close that we are a family all be it we met on fab but have taken it to a personal level outwith .

So i hope you all find on fab the same as we did and have just as many laughs in life . X

I think that it's really hard to make friends in life in general and especially as I'm about to make the big move it would be good to make some new friends.

"I'm always happy to just chat to other guys on here

Being bi tho I can't imagine many straight guys striking up a conversation

Daft though isn’t it.. that’s like me not being mates with blokes in case they think I fancy them. Maybe sometimes we all overthink it x

Sometimes I wonder this too - if I message a woman just to chat platonically will she think I’m coming onto her because I’m bi... Which is daft really because my male friends on here don’t all assume I want to sleep with them (that I know of) "

Totally!! Think I’ve more female than male friends here now and that’s not like me.. but it’s been ace just getting to know people and having the most random of chats

I wonder about this too.. Most of my male friends on here tend to be bi.

I'm odd though..

If a man is my mate, he'll never be anything more, if a man comes in all sexual though, he'll never be anything.. mate, sex - nuffin.

Like I said.. I'm odd.

Most of the straight regular forum guys seem a good laugh, but I wouldn't want to make them feel uncomfortable. So I tend to just interact via forum. Easier for everyone that way.

I also think that women may be more likely to declare that they don’t have people to talk to whereas men, not so.

Of course, I could be wrong.

Yes I have a few special lady friends who I'm blessed to have in my life.

They are very important to me and although we don't speak daily I know they will be there should I need them. I hope they know I will always be here too.

I didn’t expect to meet such valuable friends on a here, but I'm so glad I have.

Sometimes it’s as easy as commenting on the fact you like how someone posts.. I talk all kind of gibberish and I never ever talk sex here! Some great blokes here

Diagonally Parked in a Parallel Universe

I have very few close friends, although I have lots of acquaintances. I feel more at ease with women.

I find this quite odd, as I talk for a living and for a hobby, as well as being in a band, so it's not as if I avoid mixing with others.

On here, I've had conversations with male and female, but only regarding forum topics.

I don't go out of my way to message someone to ask how their day was, probably because I don't know anyone too well yet.

But I've had some interesting and fun conversations with people that use the forum. Men, women and couples.

I think it gets deprioritised especially when it involved considerable travelling for some. I think we were full of good intentions but don’t put sufficient priority on it.

I've never really tried making any friendships in here, but any I have have been male, as they've kinda progressed from chats.

There's lots of women I really like on the forums, but it often feels a bit creepy just to message a female to say hi, you seem lovely,hi!

The male friendships I have are very few but they mean the world to me, and actually can't imagine not being in touch with them

I don't go to socials, so never really get the chance to properly bond. I'm such an antisocial mare.

"I talk to a few women, one I’ve met and we just clicked and I know I can tell her anything, she will tell me how it is and by the end of it I’ll be laughing.... you know who you are and thank you

I’m looking forward to catching up with the others some point in the future, just a shame everyone lives so far away, the fab curse extends to friendships too

There are a couple of men I talk to and class them as friends more than anything

I'm round the corner (well nearly)

You my lady I will catch up with at the Bank social and I’m sure we will have a laugh... my fellow northerner living in the south

Looking forward to meeting you but I haveto warn you, I talk too much, drink too much Gin and am a little socially awkward.

As we the same person? "

"I've never really tried making any friendships in here, but any I have have been male, as they've kinda progressed from chats.

I love creepy ha ha

I didn’t really understand the whole friendship thing until I went to my first social and absolutely loved it.

If it weren't for the forums and the friendly, funny, helpful and informative ladies I have chatted to, I think I would have given up on fab entirely!

Saying that, I did take a couple months off (busy with life in general), but it was the forum banter and friendships that brought me back.

I agree I would feel creepy messaging a random women on here in a non sexual way and saying hi. Wonder why that is? I’m sure it wouldn’t feel creepy in person ...

I am newish to the forums myself but I would love to make some new friends male or female, nice to find like minded individuals.

I think we often stop ourselves from doing something so instinctive by overthinking! It’s nice to just message and say I like what you say.. even if it’s just one conversation it’s nice to break the ice x "

That's very true, I think I need to man up more and reach out, its visible as well on here those that have great friendships and that's lovely to see x

"I'm always happy to just chat to other guys on here

Being bi tho I can't imagine many straight guys striking up a conversation

I wonder about this too.. Most of my male friends on here tend to be bi.

I'm odd though..

If a man is my mate, he'll never be anything more, if a man comes in all sexual though, he'll never be anything.. mate, sex - nuffin.

Like I said.. I'm odd.

Most of the straight regular forum guys seem a good laugh, but I wouldn't want to make them feel uncomfortable. So I tend to just interact via forum. Easier for everyone that way.

I'm like that. I do wonder if straight guys just assume bi guys want to jump on them!

I think you and I are quite alike in lots of ways. I've not experienced it at all though, most forum men are pretty pleasant if I do end up mailing them in private over a post. A few have even messaged me first, its probably all in our head?"

I agree. The friendships that I've got have all been started by messaging off the back of threads to agree or to continue a discussion. As guys often don't do that without an ulterior motive, the friends I've made have mostly been women. Maybe it's just me though, looking for the 'catch'

"I have some great friendships on here. Both same and opposite sex.

I think it adds a lot to the experience it’s the main reason I’m still here x

I'm always happy to have more friends. A lot of my closest local friends are people I know through clubs and the kink scene."

I think it’s nice just to feel able to say hello you make me smile or something daft just because there’s no competition or anything between friends and I think that’s what people expect sometimes within same sex groups on a site like this.

Being here is my private life. I have a large group of girlfriends who don't know I'm on here. I tend to keep myself to myself on Fab and, unfortunately, from past experience, I don't trust many people. So it's not important to have friends because, apart from 2 guys, I won't discuss anything with anybody about Fab.
