I used to bike 8 miles after sixth form twice a week to work cash in hand at a Clay Pigeon Rifle Range . Used to sit in a freezing metal shack and let the Clays out the machine , I froze to bits in the winter 5 till 8pm .

All for £8 a shift

As I've always bedn handy with a paint brush, my first paying job was decorating for my grandparents. They had a single width but double length garage which I painted twice, and their back room.

Apparently even a professional painter & decorator said the back room was done well, and I'm pretty sure I was only about 8 or 9 when I did that one

Then at 16 I worked on the tills at Woolworths on Saturdays for 6 months, but wasn't a hit with the management, so went and worked in the lab at Vision Express making the glasses. That was a great job, and kept it going on and off for years, on summer holidays from uni. Put myself down as a roving lab tech one year, claimed all my mileage back and got more in expenses than in wages

"I worked at a dog boarding kennels cleaning up after the doggies... for £1.70 an hour

That's a shit job "

Yup. It was a Saturday job when I was 15. I just loved being around the dogs to be fair. Getting the bus home was always fun, smelling of dog kennel

I would have done it even with the smell and shoving, hope the bus driver didn't make you sit at the back on your own though

Haha no, but people did used to make comments like “what’s that smell?” It was probably doggy smell on me. Luckily, the last 19 years has brought a significant climb up the career ladder and I now get to wear nice clothes and smell pretty at work (although I do still sometimes wish I worked with dogs instead of people)

Diagonally Parked in a Parallel Universe

My dad has his own business - a car body repair shop, so my school holidays were spent preparing cars for painting, as well as mixing the paints and tints. I didn't get paid in cash, but he funded my motorbike sports I used to take part in.

My first paid job was in a snooker table factory, making sure the production line was always stocked.

Had family friends in Spain who owned an apartment complex so stayed the full summer holidays three years in a row cleaning the apartments out and doing odd jobs and what not.

Free flat for the season, free food and spending money. Was probably illegal as fuck but wasn't complaining lol.
